262.99 does not install

Hi, First post. On trying to install the latest version 262.99 for my GeForce 8800 GT, I get this:

Meanwhile, can anyone recommend a stable/reliable older version please? Two weeks ago I updated from the very old 175.19 to the very new 260.99, but I am occasionally getting some quirky screen corruption.

This is a 2 year old Quad Core Q9450 2.66 GHz, 4 GB DDR2 667 MHz, 512 MB nVIDIA GeoForce 8800GT

Re: 262.99 does not install

the 262.99 WHQL-certified driver is for the new GeForce GTX 580 GPU. Only Thats why they will not instal.

Welcome to HH

Its not easy to recomend a driver thats stable... You see what works well on one pc does not mean they will react the same on your pc...

Quick question are you a Gamer or just an Internet Browser..

Re: 262.99 does not install

Thanks MIG-31. I've since learned that 262.99 is for the GTX580, not suitable for my GeForce 8800 GT.

I'm not into gaming, if you exclude the occasional use of MS FSX (Flight Simulator). My most intensive graphics work is with my video editor, Magix MovieEdit Pro.

Anyone with any views on 260.99 or a recommendation for an earlier alternative I might try please, to see if it resolves these 'screen corruption' flaws I've seen occasionally?

Re: 262.99 does not install

As MIG said, drivers react differently with systems, keep moving backwards from 260 until you find a set you are happy with that are as new as possible without causing you issues and if you're not a gamer you may as well stick with them. But hopefully you'll find something newer than 175!

Re: 262.99 does not install

The 260.99 wouldn't install properly for me when I did the auto-clean install, it would remove my drivers then it will pop-up later saying the install failed but leave my system driverless. I had to install using the 3D Vision GeForce drivers (v1.38)

Re: 262.99 does not install

Did you try using the Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
It should give you drivers that you can install fine which should be 260.99. Try to install the international version. The US version for me usually gives me some problems.

If you want to install 262.99 (which i realllly like on my 8600m GT) you will need a modified inf which you can download GeForce ForceWare 262.99 WHQL Download & Discussion - Guru3D.com Forums at post #9.

But honestly with drivers, if it's not broken, then don't try to fix it. Go with the ones you've been using for a while.
