Default Post Does anyone know what drivers goes best with the creative Geforce Pro DDR???

hi all
thanks for reading...

just bought a Creative Geforce Pro DDR from newsgroup....
it is a CT6970
but when boots up, the Bios for the card reads CT6971...
does this mean that it's bios has been flashed???...

another thing is that the graphic card keeps hanging after a few mins....
no matter what drivers i use, it still hangs..
tried 29.42 27.50 23.11 23.83 23.81 all for win98
but it works fine is safe mode and when there is no drivers in the computer for the card...
very funny

has anyone seen this problem before??..
please advice...
thanks...

my setup is as below

AMD K6 3 400
Gigabyte GA 5AX rev 3.0
448 SDram PC133

if need anymore info, just ask, i'll try to post it...
if you read this, please help me upz....

not sure about the bios thing, but does it hang when you're on the desktop, or does it hang after a few minutes of gaming?

try here? - though this seems to be the VIA Athlon chipset K*133* mostly

and here - I'd suggest the compatibility registry tweaks
http://www.tweak3d.net/faq/faq.html#...:troub:mbc:ss7

Using powerful graphics cards with a Socket 7 based system is often troublesome, due to rather weak AGP standards compliance.

The other possibility - the card is Geforce 256 based, and the original Geforce (the 256) was power-hungry to the point of causing some motherboards problems - but that would be as bad in safe mode.

It sounds like an AGP issue - Info at Gigabyte suggests it's an ALI chipset board, and provides a 1.80 AGP driver

The ALI site has a 1.90 AGP driver
http://www.ali.com.tw/eng/support/support_driver.htm

It might help?

i certainly hope so..
cause i tried all the things on the webby and the only thing that realy help was taking out the first PCI card in the first slot, from what the guys in GeforceFAQ says, the AGP and the first PCI slot are sharing IRQ(or something like that)
it worked only for 1/2 hour....
then back to square one...
i changed the fan of the card as it wasnt working well anymore..
changed the card back to my old matrox G400...
but this ali agp driver might help..
will go back and try and let you know how it goes....
thanks for everything man...

hi matth....
ok i tried the agp driver...
it didnt work...
but this part i dont understand...
can you guide me on this??..

If these files don't seem to have any effect, you may have to edit them in Notepad and change the 0000 to 0001, or another value. Take a look at the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Class\Display
registry key using regedit and find out which number your graphics card is using.

This registry tweak does not work in the latest (5.xx+) drivers.

cause i have two folders(0000 and 0001) and i dont know how it edit the ooo1 to be the default...

i'm using win98se...
currently using the drivers from creative..
another thing is if i used the very old drivers(7.XX) will it be useful??....

Another thought...

Get the AGPWizard, or the Blastercontrol *** I'm currently using AGPWiz to force mine UP to AGP2x.

And force it to AGP 1x, disable AGP sidebanding etc.
One of the other Nvidia tweakers from http://www.guru3d.com may also help.

I just wonder, how many watts is your PSU?
With a power-hungry CPU (Athlon) it's a 300w MINIMUM for stability with one of these - with a less exotic CPU, a 250w might do, 230 may be borderline, and 200w or lower could be struggling.
