Default Post Need Help Please!!!

I didnt know where to post this, so sorry if it's in the wrong place.

I have a nvidia geforce-II MX400, running Windows XP.. and after a while, usually a couple of days, it stops working, with the error code (10) in device manager...
i try installing, re-installing the drivers, all different ones from windows default through to 3030... and still has the same error.. the only way seem to be to re-format to fix the problem. I dont change anything, or install anything new from what i have been using since i first started using winXP almost a year ago. but the problem has started in the past 2 months...

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanx in Advance

Jessy

What stops workin? Your video card? Are you saying u see the error after you reboot? Have tried to install a new video card to see if that is the or put your video card you have now in another system and see if u get the same problems also what version of the drivers are you using?

try disable all shadowing on bios..

installed your latest AGP driver?

lastly, try changing your system from ACPI to standard pc.. READ HERE BEFORE DOING IT

I should add, i run windows XP on 2 hard drives, changing between the 2 when 1 Op fails.. so i know it's not the Card itself, cause it works fine on one and not the other..

As i said before i have used different drivers from the Winxp CD ones through to 3030, so i know it's not the drivers

Also, have try different methods such as using different drivers for AGP.. i run a P4 on a Intel Motherboard 815... and dont have anywhere to change Shadow in the bios, or anything much in the bios at all, it's all auto.. there are no preferences to change in the bios, but also as i said it's only been the past couple of months.. and i have been using the same MB for over a year, so i know it's not that either.

I'll explain the problem a little better, every now and then, when i reboot.. the OS goes into VGA mode, and in the device man, the error code 10 (Device cannot start)
is on the nvidia Driver. I reboot a few times, and it still comes up with the same problem.. one of the times it happened, i deleated the contents of the Prefetch cache, (dont know why really).. and changed the waittokill in the reg to 30seconds.. when i restarted again, it was all fine.. the card was working again... but this remedy does not always work, leading to a re-format to solve the problem... i know it's definatly Software related, and can sometimes happen before i load anything on but Windows XP.. so it's not to do with any programs, or drivers i'm using. Also i have tryed the method of using standard System instead of ACPI, and that dont work either... so there you have it... If anyone else has had this problem, i dont know what else i can do, might try bying a new Video card (NON Nvidia)...

Any help would be great

Thanx

Jessy

God I've had that problem some many times in XP it makes me sick. It doesn't matter how well you root out old drivers and such, it WILL happen. I tried everything from chipset drivers to BIOS flashes. Nothing. Yet another reason why I want to go back to 2000. Well the last time this happened to me (a few days ago) I went looking through every forum I could find. Someone posted how he fixed his and I didn't think it would do anything but it did indeed fix mine too. Go into your System Properties and go to the Advanced tab. Hit Settings for Performance Options and go to the Advanced tab. Change Memory Usage from System Cache to Programs. Reboot

Thank you Zarathrustra

I have just "XPerienced" this since finally getting SP1 last week and the quote above has been the best info on the matter I have found thus far.
