Default Post Diamond Viper V770 32 Meg

Im trying to install a Diamond Viper V770 32 Meg card with my friend used to have on his PC... running windows XP, the same as me.

But whenever i install it, generally it works ok for a little bit, but the moment anything goes full screen, game or video the whole system freezes. And if it hasnt done this, within a couple of hours, it will just freeze completly anyway.

After a few restarts because of the freezes windows refuses to load unless i remove the card and go back to my 8meg on board S3 Pro. Savage card.

Diamond dont make XP Drivers, but Windows XP Installs it as a NVidia TNT Riva 2, which is how it worked on my friends PC..

Im using 128meg of RAM.. AMD Duron 900MHz... Im not sure whatelse there is to tell.

Oh, the drivers im using are NVIDIA Detonator XP. I tried to find a new video BIOS, unsuccessfully.

Basically i just want the card to work!

The Diamond Viper 770 is a TNT2 ultra so those driver should work. Have you did a search of your old savage drivers, make sure you have them removed from all the windows dir. and also check the registry for hooks. check also if there is a unistall for the savage in add and remove programs. Good Luck!!

I have the same card and everytime I changed drivers it did this. If I tried to use any 3D screensavers it also locked up the entire system. I finally downloaded and reinstalled Directx and it fixed the problem for me.

looks like a driver/directx problem to me. with directx and windows xp, it's more intertwined than i.e., so a reinstall wouldn't be a bad choice. other than that, you could follow mark_fox's directions on how to completely remove and reinstall nvidia drivers.

kind to think of it, i had exactly the same problem until i removed 256mb of memory, but that problem has been fixed, in the 21.81 set. hmm.

One other thing. Look in your "system32" directory and see if they're any duplicate files starting with "nv". I had that trouble one time, where I had multiple instances of certain nvidia files. I finally uninstalled nvidia's driver, booted into vga mode and then manually deleted every file in the system32 directory starting with "nv" that was left. In some cases I had three instances of some "dll" files.

I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers using "Add/Remove Programs", then when it rebooted, I hit F8 and chose "Start Windows in VGA Mode" or something to that effect.

Have you tried altering the AGP size thingy in the BIOS? (sorry, can't remember exactly what it's called, AGP apature? I think).
I used to have similar instabilities with a GF1 until I set the AGP thing to 256mb. I have left it there and have had no further problems with any vid cards since.

Good luck m8
