PC randomly rebooting.

Hi all,

I upgraded my system a few days ago and have had quite a few random reboots since.

I upgraded my system from:

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
MSI KT4V-L
NVIDIA Geforce FX 5900 Ultra 256MB
1GB DDR 400Mhz
550w PSU

to

AMD Athlon XP 2600+ Barton
MSI KT4V-L
NVIDIA Geforce FX 5900 Ultra 256MB
1GB DDR 400Mhz
550w PSU

I was playing the UT 2004 Demo and i got some errors but i had the same with the 2000+ but the one error when i hit ok the pc rebooted, the next day while the pc was idle it rebooted again.
The pc then went for over a day without rebooting then i gto PlanetSide and installed it.
The pc reboots at idle or in games, and i have tryed to see if or what part of my system upgrade has been causing this.

I have tryed the following.

Reinstalling the Forceware 53.03
Reinstalling the latest VIA
Changing the PCI Latency from 32 to 64
Reseting the bios to defaults

What can i do to fix this ??

format,roll back gfx drivers ?

Also, after disabling the restart option in windows it shows the error.

If you search some here, you'll find a lot of folks have had similar problems that were solved by replacing/swapping the PSU, as was suggested to you in the MSI Forum (you've documented your problem well - thanks!).

When I saw the title of your post, I admit, the first thing I thought was 'another weak supply?' but list a 550W supply- then you list a Q-tec in the MSI forum - they really are a problem from all I've read. The most likely solution to your problem is to replace the supply (or swap out with a known quality one as a check, and see).

Really, see what that does...

I had the same problem with my Intel base chip, I think its a software problem. Try reinstalling windows the same thing happen to me twice once when I put on the Intel acceleration software and anouther time when I reinstall windows. I corrected the first time with uninstalling the Intel software and the second time by reinstalling windows again both times stopped the random reboot. Your error looks like the same one I had at that time.

first off get a new psu rated at at lest 400W and you want a duel fan brand name!
you thread links indicate its a power issue

but if you insist i'd try safe mode driver cleaner....
then i try reinstalling the driver if that didn't work format the sucka

I dont have a spare PSU that could run this system, so i am going to format and see what that does.

Well i have formated and got the system back to the way i like it, so far so good i just need to run 3dmark to test some stuff then i will load up PlanetSide and see how it runs.
I dont plan on reinstalling the UT2004 demo again as from a link on http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...threadid=30148 it seems to be causing a lot of people problems.

I formated and its still happening but its not blaming the nv4_disp.dll anymore.

hmm.. quite normal for me.. I got rid of the usual crashes by changing some BIOS settings.. mostly the cache and master write systems.. .. but anyways, I don't think the BSOD is caused by the display-adapter only.. I did also update the PSU and still the same problem remains.. ..
but as I said, it works allright with some bios-switches off..

and I have tried out different sets of nvidia-drivers using the drivercleaner..
