drivers for doom 3 alpha 2

ok, I downloaded the doom3 alpha 2, and I'm not really computer illliterate, so when i read about the grey screen problem, i know to install the 41.09 nvidia drivers. I get everything for doom3 installed, and it asks me if i want to install the 41.09 drivers. I know i need them, so i install and restart. upon boot-up, i notice that my display settings tell me im using the same drivers i was before i "installed" the 41.09s...(StarStorm xQ 53.03)

Not noing what the problem is, i remove the starstorms and nvidia drivers from my system. so upon restart I am using system drivers. Then i try to install 41.09s (from website and doom3 file). after the "installation"...i notice that it still tells me im using system drivers....under display properties it just says "16 Default Monitor: " or something like that. its not seeing the 41.09s.

next, i try to go to "update driver" on my card's leaf under device manager. i tell it i have the disk, and it gives me a list of nvidia series cards. mines not on the list (5900 flashed to 5950ultra). when i selected the .inf from the nvidia drivers it installed under "Geforce Alladin" or something similar to that.

Was I on the right track or not? I re-installed the nvidia 53.03s....and am currently using them. Would someone please inform me as to what I should do next?

Im sorry if this has already been asked.

thanks,
robert

Have you tried the latest beta drivers. Maybe the grey screen problem is fixed. Just a guess.

Have you thought about waiting for the official game? This is after all an Alpha, not a beta of the game. The product is not even close to finished in what you are playing.

I doubt any driver beta or official will fix the problem, graphics manufacturers don't fix driver related issues with games in alpha phase.

i got it to work.

what i did was wipe all my current drivers (again), and use the system ones...I then installed them manually by choosing "have disk" and not running the nvidia setup. i selected the .inf file for the 41.09s, and choose the best-fit card from the list. this was the nv25....im basically on a 5950 ultra (flashed 5900), so this was about as close as i could get. the alpha now runs....although not too great, as the drivers dont really like my card

now i just get to figure out the config files to make it look good!

Right, at the moment i seem to be one of the few people who keep posting this solution across the boards, i am amazed no one else has heard of it!
To get the DooM ]I[ alpha working on Geforce FX cards, download the latest version of one of my fave pieces of software- rivatuner (why dont you already have it? )
Simply go to the OpenGL settings, and enable NV40 emulation.
There, couldnt be easier!
Tested with 53.03 and 56.56 on a 5900Ultra flashed to a 5950 and OC'ed a notch or two.

DooM rules

yes, I just figured out the trick with rivatuner 2 days ago. I was forced to reinstall the nvidia 53.03 drivers (had an RvS match, and it wouldnt run under the 41.09s), and found this fix on a torrent website.
