exclamation Geforce4 Users "Golden Driver"

Athlon xp 2.2ghz
Geforce 4 TI 4200 8xagp 64mb @ 305/655

I have been looking for that so called golden driver for a very long time. One that is faster than all. In my long journey I have found very fast drivers and very slow drivers. Some of the fastest have also turned out to be the most buggy. Everyone says that Nvidia started optimising for the geforcefx at the 50.xx drivers. What I have found is, starting with the 44.03 drivers 3dmark2001 score dip by over 1000 points on my system. The nature demo seems most evident of this and only gets 60-70 fps on my system. Nvidia must have used the last of the 40.xx drivers as testing grounds for the upcoming GeforceFX. Here are the drivers I have tested so far.

Omega Drivers: 42.30, 43.45, 44.03, 45.23a, 53.03BETA

StarStorm Drivers: 44.67q, 53.03xq,

Nvidia WHQL: 40.41, 40.72, 43.45, 44.03, 45.23, 45.33, 52.16, 53.03, 53.04

3rd party Drivers: 41.09, 42.70, 43.30, 44.71, 45.24

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been testing these as they come along for quite some time as a personal quest to get the most out of my video card. The winner out of all of these is the Omega 43.45. Coming in on a close second is the Starstorm 44.67q. The Starstorm 44.67q is not that much slower than the Omega 43.45 but lacks much of its quality. I am getting 12,000+ 3dmarks in 3Dmark2001 with what I call the golden driver for the Geforce 4. The Omega 43.45, The king of all drivers. Download link to omega's page below.

heheh I knew that was coming. I just made sure it was the best. I would'nt give up. I had to try as many as I could. This way its easy and you dont try every driver under the sun. I also discovererd Themal throttling also happens with a GF4. I tried the Beta Omega driver and oc'ed my card to a point it would normaly lock up but it did not. It just gets lower and lower 3dmark scores the further you go. I was under the impression this only happened with the GeforceFX

If that were true why are you complaining about the drivers...they are not the "G (I assume you mean Graphics) card itself” The Drivers are part of system configuration.

I understand that the drivers control the graphics card, and IMO drivers are part of your system configuration...and your statement discounted that. Sorry to everyone for dragging this out.

No realjessy, no one is hounding you. Your tone at times is out of line and you need to tone it down. We welcome everyone here and those with different opinions. You are more then capable of stating your opinion and explaining it in a reasonable fashion, so please do so. All anyone wants to do is help each other out here not get a wise arse response when they ask a question.

No one has been out of line with you or gave you any wise remarks so you need to do likewise.

I have went through your other posts. As when I recieve complaints about you and your posts it is my job to see what is going on and check them out. At times your posts are fine but lately it seems as you are taking somethings here way too personally and are coming off very harsh in your responses.

That being said I am not going to bicker back and forth with you in this thread about your attitude at times on this forum. Simply put you will follow the rules here at DriverHeaven and you have been asked and warned to tone it down.

I really hope you are not basing "best driver" for gf4 users soley on 3DM2k1.... I have a Ti4200 and personnaly I see compatibility fixes in every new driver for the latest games.

No it isnt. I tested all titles by EA games and Microsoft from 1992 to date.
Well why dont you try it. If it doesnt give you any problems, its all good. That would be the obvious thing to do.

Has anybody tried 42.30 drivers for Ti4200?

Hi,

Read the post here about the best drivers for Geforce4 cards. I would welcome your thoughts on my situation. First, my system is:

ASUS A7N8X2.0 Deluxe motherboard /
AMD Athlon XP2800+ w/333MHz frontside bus /
2 x 512MB KingstonVR PC2700 DDR memory / operating in dual-channel mode
Gainward U650XP Golden Sample (it's a GF4 Ti4200 128MB). Default settings - Core=250MHz Memory=444MHz.
WindowsXP Home edition
Maxtor 80GB hard drive / 7200 rpm / 8MB cache

Motherboard BIOS : System Performance setting = Aggressive. This is a very slight overclock of the cpu plus faster-than-normal timings for the memory.

Also, for certain "demanding" games I use Gainward-approved "enhanced" video card setting of Memory = 520MHz.

Generally speaking, performance and image quality are pretty good. Some games like QUAKE3 are run at 1600x1200 with maximum quality settings. The other extreme is, say, Colin McRae Rally 2 (very demanding!) which I'm running at 640x480 with medium quality/detail. Most games are actually running at 1024x628 with various quality settings.

3DMark2001se score is usually around 12550.

Now, about the drivers...... I'm currently using 42.30 WHQL from Gainward's website. Gainward lists them as being the "final" drivers for my Ti4200.

Earlier drivers are slightly less good. Have tried 44.03 drivers and found no improvement; in fact a slight drop-off in one 3DMark test. Also tried either some 52.xx or 53.xx drivers from nVidia's website and they were significantly WORSE !!

Now I don't mind changing drivers again but, as I said above, newer ones don't seem to give any improvement. So, should I just stick with what I've got until I can afford a new card (Radeon 9800 Pro I hope!) ?

Comments and suggestions are welcome....

Regards
