Default Post Different problems with Ti 4400 and XP

Currently Having problems with an Inno3D Ti4400 in that, when sound is enabled D3D and OGL games always lock up the PC.
This is acompaned by the sound card making a screaching type noise, although it only does this with the SBLive, when the internal mobo audio is used, there is no noise.
With both the SBlive or the internal sound removed the games manage to work fine.
Previous to this there was a GF2MX installed which ran flawlessly
If anyone has any ideas then that would be great

the System is
AMD XP1600
ECS K7S5A
256mb ram
SBLive or CMedia mobo audio
Det rev is 28.32

hmm...this is very interesting...are you using the latest drivers for your SBLive! and is the the internal mobo audio disabled (in the bios) when using SBLive! ? What is your Power Supply Unit (PSU)? The Geforce4 Ti will recquire higher voltage then Geforce2 MX as far as I'm aware so low PSU could be a problem. 300W+ is always best...

What else..hmm...are u using same drivers with new Geforce4 that you used with Geforce2mx before you upgraded?

Is Fast Writes and SBA disabled? It might have worked with Geforce2mx but it doesn't mean it will with Geforce4...

Have u changed anything else software or hardware wise when u upgraded the video card to Geforce4?

Let me know answers to these questions, we'll do our best to try to solve your problem

SBlive drivers are 3520, not the very latest but just prior to christmas release.
the PSU is 300W, double checked that.
Fast write was already disabled but SBA was enabled, Cant find any reference to these within the bios, had a look around advanced settings.
Had to use powerstrip to conferm the above, tried disabling SBA with that but it locks up the pc.

When the Live is in use, the interanal audio is disabled within the bios. its only been enabled when the Live was removed for testing.

The dets installed atm are now 28.90, seem a little better in performance only, just the same lockups still.
the gf2mx was using 21.70 which was uninstalled before updating

Ok, first let's make sure that you do a clean install of the nVidia drivers. This is extremly imortant especially if switching from 20.xx+ drivers to 25+.xx drivers (like u did). You might want to back up registry before just in case something goes wrong.

From add/remove control panel - remove nvidia drivers but don't re-start yet! Before u restart, go to registry and scroll down to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Video] - remove all keys underneath. You might have 1,2,3,4,5, etc keys - all should be removed. Now u can restart!

when u boot back to windows, the system will display message(s) saying the display adaptor isn't configured, not set to maximum...etc...ignore it for now. Next install 28.32 drivers, either manually by going to device manager and upgrading the current winxp default driver (12.40) or you can use nvidia automatic install program. Both should work.

Reboot when asked, when u boot back to windows, chage resolution to whatever u like, enable nView if u wish, etc, install refresh rate fixer (so u can play games @ more the 60Hz) - I think refreshlock v2.01 does the trick. Now play some games and report back on whether the problem is fixed. If not, at least u have fresh install of drivers so we can look @ something else next.... good luck!
