have you by any chance installed george breese's latency patch? if so, uninstall it, reboot, install your vid drivers and all should be well again.

i would set your bios settings to default since youre starting from scratch...still no go, then toss the card in another box ...or have you already done that....

oh! i misread your first post completely...sorry man.

turn off the power, unplug the cord, ground yourself, pull out the cmos battery, reset the cmos jumper for a couple minutes, put back the jumper and battery, check all your connections again, reseat your cards and ram...good luck.

at what point did you get a cpu oc error? and where would you find such an error if the monitor didnt turn on?

*cough*

HHmmmm i hate to ask but :

Do you know that the GF4 needs alot more power than the Gf2??.

You might wanna try another psu (power supply).

Or try removing anything you dont need to boot it up to an O/S(second hard drives ,pci cards or even un needed usb devices (in other words ..free up your power).

If it works well you know its the PSU )

To make sure it isnt anything else (conflict of some sort) try taking things out one piece at a time then trying etc.

This based on a problem i had when i went from my gf2 mx200 to the Gf3 ti 500 which needs even less power than a GF4.

Btw you could have left the old drivers installed since it is a nvidia card also.

Good luck and please tell us your outcome so that we know anything you may discover to later help someone else.

Good-Luck !!

P.S Is the Graphics card the ONLY thing you changed ??(maybe some ram etc.)

Make sure when you tighten the PCI Screw it doesn't move the card. This used to happen to me before until I saw that the card was just ever so slowly being moved once I tightened the screw. Put a finger on the card while tightening the screw.

Default Post ...?

ill tell all my specs soo u know..i jus paid bout 7 bills for my system...
i got a new case...420 watt power supply...1800+xp...256 mushkin ram...
geforce 4 ti4200 (used to be geforce 2 mx 200)...lite on dvd player..cd rom..tdk burner..
floppy...light inside...3 fans....Nic card...thats practically it...

keep in mind that have just formatted my comp ..with a new install of windows XP pro..
the monitor does not turn on...it also seems as if the hard drive cannot be read...and
there is no beep in the beginning to signal the pc is operating.....
when i power on the switch..nothing goes on screen the monitor is dead...but since
asus motherboards have a speech thingy that tells u ur problem..it told me
"system failed due to CPU over-clocking"

in my troubleshooting guide from the mobo manual it sais i should do 1 of 2 things:

1).in jumper free mode, check your cpu settings in bios and make sure you only set to the recommended settings...( i did that)

2).in jumper mode, refer to section 2.7 switches and jumpers..(i chose jumper free mode..so i dont need to bother with this..but checked it anyway...)

i dont know wats going on..the monitor is jus dead..and my system isnt turning on...
thnx for reading and trying to help..

But if reinstall the old one it plays right ???

have you tried this card on another system??

If your system warns you of Overclocking without you having done so maybe the problem is in the cpu voltage that may be overclocking your card and thus reporting it so.

can you take your brothers power supply and fit it to your system to try it.

Never believe that something new always works problem-free no mater how much you payed for it.
Maybe you damaged something yourself due to static discharge etc.

I suggest trying out your parts one by one on another system if possible.
Start with the PSU then graphics then Cpu(this one is a little harder) and finaly the HD
and even the ram.
THese problems can only be solved by trial and error or elimination of certain possibilities.
So make sure you stuff works first and then you look at the motherboard that may have been damaged.

Even if you take your system to a dealer /technician they will do the same.

Default Post i jus called techs at frys..

and they said...it may be my agp voltage..the AGP voltage has been a prob for several users...but my Asus a7v333 does not give me an option in the bios to change AGP voltage...anyone got any ideas? or solutions?

my best bet is get another mobo ..

it should be able to handle the card by default.

Since it doesnt i suggest getting a different board cause they might have a factory
made problem and even a new but same type will not solve your problem.
Or you can try another gf4 card and see if it works better.
For answers regarding your mobo go to the asus forom or faq..im sure you will find a solution there.

sounds to me like you changed the cpu multiplier... or something did. set your mobo to jumper mode, set the fsb to 133mhz, and set the cpu multiplier to 11.5x
