Default Post System Crash w/GeForce2 MX400

Whenever I play a game on my XP system the game will hang after a short while and then restart my computer. I have tried running the latest drivers (Detonator from Nvidia's web site, Omega Drivers, and a few other driver versions) and it's the same thing. My Chipset is the latest version too.

Hmmm

Ok i all i can say with the very limited info you supplied is:

A) Power supply too small or getting ready to die.

B)CPU overheating (not enough cooling or extremely overclocked)

C) Graphics card overheating (same reasons as CPU) but the Graphics card wont restart the pc.(not to my knowledge)

Try looking at the above but if you still have a problem help us help you by telling us you system specs and what you did last before it started to do this(new cards/drivers/ram etc).

Oh and does it only do it when in a game or even if you browse the net etc.

Default Post System Specs

This is what I'm running:
Athlon XP 1900+
Giga-byte GA-7VTXE+ mobo
256MB DDR RAM
GeForce2 MX400
(Currently using Omega Driver 1.1.82)
Windows XP home edition
CPU Temp: 47 C / 116 F
System Temp: 35 C / 95 F

I didn't install anything new or change any settings that is what is puzzling
I have recently been getting a Stop Error (0x000000EA) stating that the file nv4_disp caused the problem and the video card got stuck in an infinite loop.

Here is your problem it's the old "infinite loop" error. Try using something around 12.41 for drivers and then experiment towards newer ones.... You may want to ask Mark Fox if he knows what drivers the infinite loop started with.

OK i did a search on google and found some info:

First i found this :

There is infinite Loop or NV Loop/BSOD error on motherboards based on VIA chipsets. (KA7, KG7, KR7A, KT7, KT7A, VA6, VH6, VL6, VP6, VT6X4)

<Symptom>

There is infinite loop or NV Loop/BSOD error on motherboards based on VIA chipsets .

The error normally occurs under a Direct3D or OpenGL application, on systems using a GeForce 2 or GeForce 3 video card with WinXP and the Nvidia detonator drivers 23.11 or 21.83. There are reports, however, of the issue occurring under Win2K. There are also reports of this occurring with ATI video cards but this has not been confirmed by VIA.

OpenGL - spontaneous reboot, hardware lockup or insufficient virtual memory error from WinXP

Direct 3D - Hardware lockup, BSOD with a message about an infinite loop error with a Nvidia driver

BSOD error message - this varies but refers to a problem with "nv4_disp.dll"

<Explanation>

There is an article descript the issue on VIA web site: http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=64

.................................................. ..................................................

BUT then i stumbled on to this :

http://forums.viaarena.com/messagevi...&threadid=9263

Read this forum cause i think they may be on to something.

Then there is the option of....should i say it ???.........................FORMAT..there i said it.

Hiya ,
I know this is many years down the track since this thread was started but I got a new GA-7VTXE+ for my son 2 months ago and have gone through the same frustrations . well I solved mine after doing all the driver thing , video card thing etc .
It turns out I had installed the heatsink the wrong way round on the cpu and it was sitting on the outer side ( closest to the edge of the MB ) of the cpu socket and thus was not entirely flat on the cpu . the underside of the heatsink has a cutaway to allow for this and i had installed it on the other side , probaly because I was rushing and it was easier to clip the thing onto the socket . I have done a 24 hour soak test palying a dvd movie twice and running sims 2 for hours on end and no problems ( FINALLY ! )

I hope this save a few clumps of hair in someones scalp ...
There are astill a few of these boards getting around so this might still be relevant .

Regards
