Omega Drivers - Performance

Ok, Im new here, so first of all, Hi to every1!

Now, Ive recently Installed Omega Drivers (v153xx) following this:
http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/dosw..._cry_tweak.txt

The thing is that According to this:
Quote:
CUSTOM VIDEO DRIVERS- You'd think that Nvidia would know how to get the most
out of it's own hardware, but apparantly this is not the case. A fellow
named Omega has made his own set of drivers for both Nvidia and ATI cards;
they rock the house, and they're FREE. My game suddenly went from bland and
flickery to crisp and glorious, with a skyrocket in FPS to boot! I don't
know what he did exactly, but it works.
, I shoudl be getting a "Skyrocket boost in FPSs", but I dont. Sure, games work a bit faster now, but that would be all. Where is the huge performance boost???

I have:

Athlon XP 1500+
GeForce 3 Ti 200 128MB
512 MB 133MHzz ram

Help/Explanation would be appreciated.

Depends on the system the reviewer who you quoted has, if he has let's say a Pentium 3 GHZ and a nvidia Geforce FX 5900/5950 or even better a Geforce 6800/6800GT/6800Ultra, maybe with the Nvidia drivers his system wasn't getting the full performance, and the omega drivers released the performance, but seeying that your system ain't a rather new system, it is possible that the nvidia drivers allready gave you the max performance your system can achieve, and i especcially mean the Geforce 3 TI 200 you have with this.

LOL

then i would take his comments with a grain of salt, since the FX 5200 can barely play farcry at the lowest settings.

Yes he had a 5200, 384 MB of ram, and 950 MHz proc. And he was runing Far Cry at 60 FPSs during "walk in the jungle" scenes, on high settings. And he didnt say that OCing is actually better than the Omega Drivers. He credited them both the same.

Copied from the farcry Website.

meaning his whole PC can't run farcry at all, so he surely can't run it @ 60 FPS at all, no mather which scene he is playing, that guy is just full of hot air.

You DO realize that he did run it do you? This is taken from GameFAQs. Not some fan site. This guy indeed ran Far Cry at 60 FPSs on high settings. Did you even read the link I posted? He used Custom drivers and OCing to get these results.

The article seems quite dubious to me.

Let's see what he's saying:

Quote:
I run Far Cry on the above machine at the following settings:

RESOLUTION: 1024x768
AA: none
TEXTURES: High
TEXTURE FILTER: Trilinear
AF: 1
PARTICLES: High
SPECIAL EFFECTS : High
ENVIROMENT QUALITY: High
SHADOW QUALITY: Medium
WATER QUALITY: High
LIGHTING QUALITY: Low (not because of FPS but becuase anything above low
causes weird negative effects indoors)

FRAME RATES: Indoor - 60+
Outdoor - 28 (heavy battle with water and a lot of backround)
- 41 (walking around in jungle)
Welcome to DH

First of all, the Omega drivers, isn't "the NOS" for your video card which gives it a surge of performance. For some people, it may give performance increases, but it's not supposed to be rocking your world.

Now concerning the FAQ, I regard GameFAQs stuff pretty highly, because these people pretty much know what they're talking about when it comes to gaming, but tweaking...that could be a little iffy.

IF he got the framerates he claims, then good for him, but we're telling you it's unlikely. I say if you subtract 15 FPS from each of those 3 values he's stated, then that would be more accurate. It also depends on which level you're playing on in Far Cry, some levels are more intense on the hardware compared to others.

Here's a more reliable tweak guide available with pictures (C'mon, you know you love pictures ) over at TweakGuide's Far Cry Tweak Guide

In the article that guy overclocked his video card from 200/350 to 250/400. That alone is probably where most of the boost is from. Furthermore he closed nearly all the background shit, which can eat up over half ur memory if u using windows xp and dont watch whats running carefully
plus he defragmented his hard drive which actually helps pevent some of the pauses when going into new areas because some of those big files games use to store textures model levels in get very fragmented across a heavily used drive.
He did a combination of things, it wasn't all because of the drivers.

PLus lighting is usually most intensive in many games so having thta on low certainly helps him out. I dont use Omega's drivers with far cry cus they seem to cause a lot of glitches,c heckerboarding etc. My lighting was on high however, so putting it on low might have fixed it if I was having a similar problem as him, but I wouldn't want to play it on low so i just use reference drivers.
