retro question: 44.03 vs 45.33 (or others)
first of all, i am using a geforce4 ti4600, so put this post in that context.
if i am not mistaken, nvidia got caught degrading image quality (cheating) to improve benchmark scores in 45.23. did they change things back to normal for 45.33? and if they didn't, does the Omega release of 45.23a make them good quality? of course the "quality'" drivers would be better than the nvidia ones but i mean, like, the missing shadow in aquamark, that sort of thing. if the image quality was not "repaired" in the omega 45.23a or in the nvidia 45.33, then i dont see another choice but to install the 44.03's, given how highly recommended they are on several forums. however, i would like to avoid that if possible, because of the vice city polygons bug and the fact that it seems Omega never released Quality mode drivers for 44.03. EDIT: oh, i should mention that i am currently using nvidia 53.03. i want to downgrade because some console emulator plugins that use opengl do not run very well in this driver set. do the Omega 53.03 alleviate that problem? of course, it would also be good to know if the image quality concerns affect 53.03 as well, considering some people said the early 50's looked even worse than the 45.23's. i dont think the 60 series is going to offer anything new for the gf4. also, they didnt have any major cheating issues discovered until 45.23, which means that at least the 44.03 is clean. however, like i said, i would like to use a Quality driver release, so i would prefer to use Omega's 45.23's but only if the cheating was disabled. i dont know what modifications to the drivers he was capable of at that time.

i may consider something in the 60 series if the opengl problem i mentioned is fixed in those. the problem may not even exist for FX cards in the 50's because they were designed with the FX's in mind, not the gf4. so if you have an FX card, dont expect to say "im using the 60's and i have no emulator opengl plugin slowdown" with relevance :^)
so that ends us up with one question: do the 60's have the same problem with opengl plugin performance (for example, Pete's opengl plugin for psx emus) with a gf4 as many of the 50's do? if so, i have no choice but to go to the 40's because i need that performance and, as i said, nvidia doesnt care about the gf4 past the 40 series so major performance gains by going higher are unlikely. :^( frankly, i find it surprising that Omega, who is such a Quality kinda guy, would release drivers based on a set that was broadly criticized for making a huge quality comprimise for benchmark speed (45.23) :^| unless he was able to remove the 'shortcuts', that is. |

I don"t care if the drivers mugged the pope. If they run my games smoothly and and a good framerate im gonna use them. Omegas latest NV drivers are the Sh#t if you are ever gonna play Doom3. The Older drivers are alot slower on this particular game.I tryed the 43.45s and they gave me 19.5 in timedemo vs 30.7 useing omegas latest drivers. I you still care about 3dmark2001 use the 43.45s but they are gonna fall short on alot of the newer games.

go ask over at guru3d...i forget which driver it is..i think the starstorm 43.xx (low revision, dont remember which) offers the best performance out of all of them for your card.
