Lack of contrast

Over the last month, I noticed that my monitor was fading to gray with and obvious lack of contrast.
I did try to tweak contrast and light settings on both the video card drivers (NVidia FX5600) and the monitor without success.
I just wonder if that is the monitor getting old or the video card signal becoming too low. Anybody experienced that?
