Why are certain pixel shaders not enabled?

I see that pixels shaders 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23 are not enabled via the drivers for the 6800 series. The Ultra has shader 23 enabled, though.

Why is this?

At this link:

I was trying to find out if nVidia address this issue from the previous generation of cards (FX). They haven't. They swept it under the carpet by talking about Shader 3.0 support instead.

Granted, the 6800 series scores well this round in the ShaderMark 2.0 tests, but it still isn't computing pixel shaders 19, 20, 21, and 22 except for the GT and Ultra which computes pixel shader 23.

give the nvidia driver team some slack hey...

they've just released a new card, and now they need to recompile the drivers to work properly in both SP1 and SP2 for xp, cause of changing in code, and that stupid DEP thing....

it'll get done when it gets done...

hey just be glad you got shaders at all

some people don't

so im sure you can live with out them for now

Agreed. Benchmarking is a "Voodoo Science". I have my own personal preference having used boards from both nVidia and ATI, and it is purely subjective.

ShaderMark v2.0 uses some texture formates NVIDIA's FX and 6xxx aren't supporting. These were changed in the v2.1 release. When the development of version 2.0 started, only the ATI Radeon 9xxx were supporting floating point surfaces and textures. That's the simple reason, why I couldn't test it against the caps of the 6xxx. ShaderMark v2.1 uses a base set of floating point textures which both ATI and NVIDIA support.
