Now we are talking over 1000 points and that my friends is no little thing and cannot
be gained with just a few steps of overclocking ones card.

If you both have a 128 drr ram its true that one has a better quality ram than the other but...

Your operating system is not the by far the same as his.
various settings that may not be the same can seriously effect performance.

You said yourself you have everything default ( BIG MISTAKE)
Also you failed to mention what drivers you are using compared to him.

I have a GF3 Ti 500 and nail the 10k mark but i do have a 2100+ amd (1733mhz).

So for you to be able to safely say that your systems are the same it would
have to be an identical system (i mean everything) and you OS carbon copied.
And believe it or not it still wont be 100% identical.

So do some reading and setup your machine as best you can FOR YOUR COMPONENTS AND NOT HIS.(this includes many bios settings too).

Also make sure you have good cooling before you go after the peak as you may have to pay for a new vidcard.

Overclocking works very well for me...

For instance, defaults with 40.72s :
~7840 3dmarks

Overclocked to 250/535
~8284 3dmarks

Overclocked to 260/580
~crash in game 3, but 74fps in Game4 opposed to like 62 or something at 250/535

If your friend's memory is running at 700mhz...make sure he buys a fire extinguisher, and the memory really is the bottleneck for Geforce3 and 4. He SHOULD beat your scores...by a lot...with 700mhz ram opposed to your 625....a lot better.
