Nvidia response to Catalyst AI?

Just speculation, but who else expects nVidia to have some type of reply to ATi's new drivers? Remember a few months ago we read of a 7x.xx series of drivers on 3dchipset, it wouldnt be all that unlikely for it to be some type of a performance driver given their track record. It just seems like their drivers havent undergone any huge changes lately, at the very least maybe even a new control applet? I always enjoy seeing what the two companys offer in the way of drivers honestly

Gotta live for the competition - we always seem to benefit.

LOL Too true, my father owns one of each high end card, X800 Pro & a 6800GT so its kinda interesting to see which hes using at any given point plus he has the fun of getting to try new drivers for each. Im envious as I cant afford it right now lol just purchased a new car and it cut back on my computer funds a little.

I wish I owned a more advanced card - I still run on a 64mb Radeon 9000. lol
So I only see minor benefits.

But ya, you're right. In the past, NVidia has usually tried to take a good lead with a better driver/rebuilt driver. Or not just a lead, but a healthy par. If they didn't, I'd be afraid.

Damn you rich people

Heh, the Pro is no match for a GT.

And isn't the ATI AI a response to Nvidia's drivers? Therefore if Nvidia responds, it will be minor tweaks and mucho marketing to something they already have.

I wouldn't be surprised; it would be typical nVidia. I would be shocked if they DIDN'T respond.

And as I recall...There was a point when ATi had released it's new "hot card", and the nVidia GeForce4's were just out. Then there was the performance driver release...delivering quite a performance boost as I recall, and outperforming ATi's cards again.

Is it possible that nVidia is gonna pull off that trick again? Time will tell, but I wouldn't put it past 'em.

Every time the new driver does not effect the performance or quality too much on my FX5200, even though 7x.xx series of drivers. So I change the card to 9800PRO.

Bingo! Nvidia is way ahead of ATI in the driver department. ATI is struggling to keep up and failing miserably.

This remains to be seen. Track record would suggest that nVidia has a better driver department...that's certainly true.

However, ATi's releases for drivers tends to be more frequent.

They've both got capabilities in the hardware department. Be fair where it's due. Right now, neither is signifigantly ahead of the other.

I said Nvidia whoops ATI in the driver department. This does not remain to be seen. This is fact and has been for....ever. They both have damned fine hardware right now, but ATI's drivers are cr4p by comparison. Always have been and still are. They're bloated with useless toys (smart shaders, VPU recovery), they have way more bugs in way more games than Nvidia drivers do, and they may release more drivers, but they hardly ever fix the bugs and most driver versions add more bugs than they fix.

The new control panel is a joke! It requires .NET and uses WAY too much resource to do nothing the normal CP couldn't do. More idiotic, useless new toys, while all the same old bugs remain and all the long requested features like game profiles, fixed gamma settings, a digital vibrance/saturation feature, are still missing.

I just came back to Nvidia after a year of 9800 Pro ownership, and man is it greener on this side! I loved my 9800 Pro, because Nvidia's FX line is/was cr4p, but I can't be happier with my new 6800GT and Nvidia's drivers now.

How do you feel about nVidia's recent announcement that their future drivers will also be based on the .NET framework?

We'll just have to wait n' see what they do with 'em. Maybe there's some cute little advantage in there, performance wise...that we're not aware of. (I doubt it, but ya never know...)
