Hi, I purchased a 64mb nVidia GeForce4 440 card for my Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop off of eBay. However, the card did not come with instructions. I did a search on google and came up with these instructions: http://www.bay-wolf.com/geforce4-1.htm
The first step asks me to download a driver. Where do I find this driver? And does anyone know a more detailed set of instuctions on installing the card? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. ~Erica |

Also here's a tutorial to look at although it shows a desktop PC and not a laptop. http://www.nvidia.com/page/pg_20011106217193.html |

Do you know what drivers I need though? That's really all I want to know.

http://www.omegadrivers.net (if you think you can tackle a manual install of drivers.)
if not: http://www.nvidia.com and just download the latest they have posted from their site. (*note: Make sure you have DirectX9.0c installed when you use those drivers.)

Nothing CAN be done...you're using Windows Millennium Edition (ME)...that's your problem right there.

So even if I change to GeForce 5200 FX/5700 FX, it still wouldn't help??

More than anything...you should be interested in upgrading your operating system. Either to Windows 2000 or XP. The old 95/98/98se/ME operating systems are no longer supported by Microsoft and as such, you wouldn't be able to take FULL advantage of everything a newer videocard would have to offer.
(in addition, Windows ME is about the worst operating system that you could have on a computer...the only one that I'd say that's below it would be Windows 95, and that's just because it didn't do true "multitasking".)

Well, I've installed the card [nVidia geForce4 440 go] in my laptop [Dell Inspiron 8100] and I get a "NEW DEVICE" prompt. But when I log on to the internet [it's AOL dial-up] and tell it to search for whatever software it needs it doesn't find it. Now what? I ran dxdiag and it isn't using the card, or recognizing it. And, I do have Windows XP.

http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/6...xp_english.exe
Download that, and run the program. It should detect your videocard, and install the driver.

Not here to solve problem, rather to post one.
![]() I have a friend who owns an internet cafe. He recently asked me to put together a high-end system due to Lineage2 lagging. Well, I got him a A64-3.0, K8N Neo, WD800JB, FX5700 and 512MB RAM. The problem is he can only install Windows98 due to license issues and software management problems. ![]() Right after I installed the 56.XX drivers I added CoolBits and got an error right after trying to enter desktop adjustments. I removed CoolBits and everything went fine. Putting aside CoolBits, what would be the best driver for Windows98 concerning stability? I don't need the best performance, just rock-hard stability.
