Default Post does anyone remember....

the time (a whlile back) in the GF2 days when nvidia released top qualitiy drivers i.e. 12.XX - 20.XX those worked great on my gf2mx200. i just wondered why the drivers they spew out nowerdays do not very little apart from some fancy new cpl's and mayby a bugfix or 2 but i remember neally all drivers upto erm let me see yea 21.XX or sumfin like that, always had a noticable speed boost which good + the usual fixes and extra reg keys added blah blah. i just wish those days would come back sob. i'm saying the 30.XX - 40.XX are utter sh*t but they could do with a noticable speed boost, i don't give a **** about benchmark tools i want the speed in games i used to have (speed it ok at the mo but i wanna see the increase!! many times i would load up serious sam just too see the effect and was happy to see some / certain improvments!).
i'm sure other people agree don't you?

Happy Gaming & ATi sux and Nvidia are the masters of gfx.

let's make this analogy... a video card is like an old car. has the potential for speed but the engine is too dirty/worn to get that speed. new drivers are like tune ups, new spark plugs, new wiring, new piston rings, things like that. once the engine is perfectly clean and rebuilt, nothing else you do will make it go faster, short of a turbocharger (overclocking). by the 21.83 release, the gf2's drivers were taking the card to its maximum potential. drivers aren't what give you the speed, the card is. drivers just clean the engine and unlock the speed for you. once that's done, all you can do is overclock or buy a faster card.

speed increase for newer cards...

21.83's increased gf3's speed. 28xx and up increase gf4's speed. the gf3 line hasn't gotten any faster since 23.11... every new card is like getting a new fix-er upper. work on the engine a little and when you're done, get another old beater

OK.
Audigy... - depends on hardware revision, but it is MOSTLY limited by shitty Creative drvs.

Having owned both the 8500 and my current ti4600 I can say each has it's own advantages and disadvantages. Neither qualifies as crap imho. Now as for the Audigy....

Frodo301, I agree. But when someone tells ATI is crap, I need to let them know about my opinion about NVIDIA.

Audigy works OK for me with kX Project Drivers. (Don't like Creative's ones).

I'm using Creative Audigy drivers, Visiontek GF3(pre-titanium) and XP pro in one rig, radeon 7000 32mb ddr, sblive and XP pro in another...and have NEVER had probs with any of this hardware.
And almost every driver(including the current 40.72's) have given me a modest speed increase.
