nvidia CoD IQ issue? *PICS*

the radeon cards don't have this problem. settings are as follows:
everything maxed in game
everything maxed in forceware (66.72)
also tried with everything maxed except AA/AF set to OFF.

notice the blockiness. the radeon cards show a "smooth" image, where here on my 6800gt, i'm seeing blocks

what can be done about this? is it not turning on 32bit txturing for some reason?

yes, it's all the way to the right "highest quality" it's as if it's not 32bit, but yet ingame it says 32bit under options. *shrug*

it's called banding and it is caused by improper digital rendering of color differences. Instead of a textured look with different shades, you are getting distinct areas of changing color. It's not a good thing. It can be seen in digital televisions (where I learned about it) mostly on bad or compressed signals but sometimes it's the chip itself. I would expect that this is just something that ATI does better . I am currently running a 6800 GT OC but came from ATI. I always thought ATI was speed and Nvidia was IQ. It seems the tables have turned.

What? You got that completely wrong, it has definately been the other way around and continues to be. But anyways, my 9700 looks pretty much exactly the same, a lot of the textures in cod really really suck.

i think the textures are working fine...it looks like it's the lightmap that is on a lower quality. try looking for that in the settings.
