Ok, I have to wait for my 6800GT to come in (which I hope is before HL2)
Anyhow, I plan on building my system this weekend (see sig below) and the only thing I am missing is the Video Card! So I was going to use my old Aeolus Ti4200 128MB card in the mean time. Sounds ok right? Well when I do get my 6800GT I should be able to just replace my Ti4200 with it...no? Without having to remove the drivers and reinstall them?? - Sounds like a dumb question, but to my knowledge there should be no issues.....well forseable ones that is.I will be interest to see the quality difference between then two cards being that they will be the only change occurring.

To be safe I'd still do a good ol' driver uninstall and reinstall. nVidia's driver architecture is unified of course so there's a chance of not having any problems -- but I wouldn't risk it with new hardware. You want to get that thing to play w/no issues ASAP.

I try to avoid my system getting to the point where I have to format at all costs; it takes me about 15 straight hours of setting up to get everything completely setup.

Yeah it would take me that long as well, but this time I will definitely do a ghosting of the raw system install. At least it is a little faster! Thanks for the advice...now if my card ever gets here.
... I know...I know... patience. But I want it... Sure hope gainward gets those cards into Canada asap!

![]() In any event I do agree with formatting when a major component is added to the system but I try to avoid it like the plague unless it's really needed.

my system runs so much better after reformatting it. it performs better, i get better scores on all of the 3Dmark tests, usually everytime i format there are newer drivers out for my video card, or chipset. BTW, i always do a low level format when i install windows . i wanna make sure everything is gone when i've installed windows.

You know after read this thread@ Overclockers.com and some related ones, I am starting to wonder if the I should even stick things out with the Nvidia card(s).
Starting to wonder if I should have shifted over to ATI (never had problems with either company....YET!)

First, I would recommend formatting and re-installing Windows after a major hardware upgrade. You want the best performance and that'll only happen when no other drivers are hiding inside your computer.
I'd agree 2 hrs is lucky. Just thinking about backup up all the stuff is a pain in the arse. Re-installing WindowsXP is a breeze after trying to find everything necessary to backup.

Well I finally got my Gainward 6800GT Golden Sample Card and I am going to try things out with just swapping the cards (Ti4200 for 6800GT) and see what happens with the use of Driver Cleaner and a reinstall of 61.77 drivers. I may actually try the newest release of Omega Drivers!
I will let you know how things go!

Well things went extremely well. No issues, and performance seems to be on par. Now the only thing is that with this card (One big MF) and all the cables already in the case....the case is not keeping things as cool as it did. So tonight I going to open it up once more to make so adjustments.
My Gainward seems to be running hotter than I thought it would. 61C on Load (Unreal Tournament or Battlefield Vietnam - 1280 X 1024 Res) for an hour. That seem too high?

Hey thanks mano!
I just reconfigured my case setup and wiring, and with two fans blowing in directly towards the Video card I am able to keep the card at 68C on Load (1 Hour + on a game like BattleField Vietnam (1600x1200) ). So yes I am extremely happy now. Idle temp is 56C! Thanks for the info dude!
