Default Post Which Detonator Driver should I use

Dudes, I just upgraded my ATI 8500 to VisionTek Ti 4200. Give me suggestions if I should use the 30.82 wqhl drivers or should I use the beta 40.72 Driver? Thanks for your inputs

Maybe omega's 1.1.82 isn't bad idea...

BTW, I think you downgraded.
Which 8500 was it?

it's retail 64mb radeon 8500. got the 128mb visiontek ti 4200 and games working fine with no crashing. I'm using 40.72 by the way. correct me if i'm wrong but radeon 9000 is faster than radeon 8500 and ti 4200 is faster than 9000. Only radeon 9700 is king now.

9000 is SLOWER than 8500 (even LE is faster than 9000 PRO).

9000 is ATI's marketing, it has no hardware TruForm support. Only two high end cards from ATI are 8500 (lower highend) and 9700 (higher highend).

9000 is low end.
9000 Pro is mid end.

Ti4200 128MB should be near by preformerance to ATI 8500LE 128MB (because they both run at 250/250). Other depends on drivers.

But I don't really care, I am ATI fan. I was NVIDIA fan when NVIDIA was second to 3dfx, now I am ATI fan when ATI is second to NVIDIA.

I think you made the right decision to move to NVidia. There are much more software support and goals driven to help support the line of NVidia cards than there are for ATI. No offense to ATI, really, but from today's market, you just have to go with the NVidias for better compatibility with most programs.

Really, I'm ok with ATI. Really.

40.72 have best 3Dmark 2k1 SE preformerance, but 1.1.82 from omega are best for games.

I see better performance and quality increase with NVidia 40.72

But that's just my opinion.

The Omega's are crap. The massively-adjusted LOD settings just look terrible if you actually want have any motion at all in your games. Sure, they look good for screenshots, but try moving for once.
