NVIDIA GeForce2 MX

Just got an NVIDIA card from a friend. My OS is XP Home. After I installed the card and driver, I went to the update site and found an update, but it failed to install. It gave me error code 80246002. Can't find that on the MS web site, and can't figure out why it won't install.

Is this card just not a good choice for XP. From what I've read, it has problems.

Did you have an AGP card installed before? Are the chipset AGP drivers installed?

Did you try to install the Nvidia drivers from Windows Update (not a good move), or from the Nvidia site.

PS. Geforce 2MX and drivers later than 53.03/53.04 are reckoned to be troublesome, the 55.x/56.x and 60+ drivers can be unstable with the 2MX.

I had trouble under Win98 (56.x driver), and a computer fair trader I know had trouble under WinXP - I was suspecting it was bad Win9x drivers, but he said the drivers were fine with anything other than a 2MX

I had a Matrox Marvel G450 eTV 32 mg, which ran great, but DOOM III wants a 64. It is an AGP card

I did get the driver from NVIDIA, ver 61.77. Card seems to work ok, but just wondered when the MS update didn't install. From what I have read, the NVIDIA doesn't play well with XP.

Should I just disregard the MS update? Should I just shop around for a different card. Any opinion would be welcome.

Disregard the MS update.
DOOM3 on my Ti4200 is already lacking many image enhancements. Competent but lacking. You could try 640*480 on your G2MX, please post if it works OK.
