GeForce FX 5600 go on Mobile PC- problem updating to Omega Drivers
I've been having a horrible problem updating my video drivers for my mobile Geforce FX 5600 go. My system specs are below. My current driver is provided by Toshiba; thier latest release for the geforce, v1.522 I think, was released a year and a half ago (ACK!). I really would like v1.677, and have tried uninstalling my current drivers, rebooting, running Driver Cleaner, rebooting again, and installing the drivers. I have tried with both Nvidia's version of the drivers (which causes the system not to recognize my video card,) and the Omega drivers (both performance and optimized, and either way my system does NOT restart - I get a black screen; I have to reboot in safe mode and run a system restore to get back to my old driver.) I have looked around and not spotted anyone with a similar problem; are the FX go's not supposed to be updated? Is there a fix? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unless they specifically say "Mobile supported", you can't use standard FW drivers on laptops.
http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/n...hZ2U9MQ**&p_li= Question Where can I download mobile drivers for GeForce Go or Quadro Go mobile GPUs? Answer Mobile GPU's like the GeForce Go and Quadro Go family of mobile GPU's use drivers that have been customized to support hot key functions, power management functions, lid close and suspend/resume behavior that are normally found in notebooks. The reference drivers that are provided by NVIDIA on our driver downloads page do not include these custom features. NVIDIA reference drivers are UDA compatible and will run on an NVIDIA notebook GPU but other functions like suspend/resume, display brightness, etc. are not supported. To locate the latest drivers for your mobile GPU, visit the drivers page for your notebook manufacturer. Since UDA drivers support backward compatibility more recent drivers for more recent notebook models from the same notebook vendor typically provide enhancements and maintain support for hot/keys and suspend/resume behavior.

Thanks for your reply!
Yeah, I've read that post before, damn it, I was hoping maybe someone had created a way around it, like maybe made a tweaked driver that supported mobile GPU's. Guess not. Anyway, thanks a ton for responding, you confirmed my worst fear No new drivers for me!

Hi, guys. We're exactly on the same boat. I have a toshiba satellite 5205-705 and I've been facing the same problem since I noticed that I couldn't play doom3 on my laptop...well, actually, if I turned off everything and changed the resolution to 640*480, I could enjoy the game with 10-15 fps.I tried to figure it out by browsing tons of website and finally I found this.
http://www6.tomshardware.com/mobile/...oshiba-08.html I think it's the reason we can't find driver to upgrade our fx 5600 go, and there must be something that neither nvidia nor laptop manufactors want us to know... Anyway, I gonna keep working on it. If you guys find anything interesting, email me please. my email: yuanjiangni@hotmail.com |

A solution...
Hello,
Using my l33t search skillz, I managed to find a website that specializes in ammending manufacturer-specific features to the official nVidia releases so that notebook cards can use them. Hooray! http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ I have tried these drivers and I can confirm that they work. I have experienced problems with the Omega drivers, including all drivers except the 1.5677 ones not working, and even those drivers I was having lightmap problems in Half-Life 2 and graphical "tearing" artifacts while playing videos. I now have current 66.93 drivers and I have no graphical problems and it runs great! ![]() For stability and compatibility reasons, I personally reccomend that you stick to the official nVidia-released drivers and not the intermediate beta ones. You can check the nVidia site for the official release versions, but at this time the most current official release is 66.83. At first ALL the drivers on this site are beta, but any official releases are used to replace the old beta relases of the same version number. Make sure you read the "instructions" on the left. They are easy but important to know. Also make sure that your manufacturer is supported for the driver you wish to download by clicking the "info/forum" tag under each release. Enjoy!
