??? nView and Direct3D

Does anybody else use the nView Desktop Manager that comes with the nVidia (and Omega version) drivers? I'm running it with my nVidia 6800GT card.

Sometimes the window transparency works, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, it says that another application is using Direct3D. I have no idea what program it's talking about. Sometimes it will start or stop working even though I have not launched or closed any other program.

Is there any way to figure out what programs are using Direct3D, so I can decide if I want to kill it in order to keep my window transparency working? Is there any other way to just force nView to work?

Also, this is annoying because the equivalent app for my ATI card (Hydravision) in another computer seems to always work for all apps. Any way to get equivalent performance from nView?

Thanks for any help or insight,
Colin
