exclamation BURN BABY, BURN!....Possible overheating.

(please pardon me if this is in the wrong fourm. But it might be due to drivers)

Ok I got big problems... I bought this PC like a month ago and I have already needed to replace the Power Supply and Now I might have a Frying Card or something.... Crap... First off What Temps are your GPU's when it is idle? Mine is right now 53 and it'll get to about 55 degress C idle, maybe even 57 according to my Asus Smart Doctor. Then when I play HL2 it goes up to 62 atleast.. Maybe higher but I haven't been able to check because this is when things get messed, it also happend in Dawn of War.

Anyway I play for a little while then all of a sudden the screen goes horrible pixilated, streatched and zooms in. It will also but the bottem part on the top and the top on the bottem . I have switched drivers a couple of times and it hasn't helped. Could it be the i messed the drivers up? I need a good uninstallation program... Or does this sound like over heating? Please help me! I'm freaking out cuz this is NEW PC! One last thing.. I have a raidmax red Cobra Case if that matters. No aditional fans (yet!) Take a look http://www.overclockercafe.com/Revie...RaidMax_Cobra/

Well thank you very much for reading this. I appreciate the help.

What card is it you have in your system?

I have an asus v9999 Ultra 6800 that was having similar trouble to you, I got a new case with more fans and one blowing in from the side right onto the card, its an Antec, this solved my problem straight away.

Driver Cleaner is the uninstaller to use, remove your drivers with windows control panel, reboot into safe mode, run driver cleaner to remove the remaining drivers and then reboot normally and install the drivers you want to use.

I also tried many different drivers, bios combinations and even changed motherboards with my problem and it was a heat issue by the look of it, no sign of trouble since increasing cooling. Try running for a while with the side cover off the case and see if there is any improvement.

This was how i discovered my problem was heat related, i noticed my issue wasn't occuring one day when the cover was off, hope this can help you.

Donator
First of all, this is the right place to post your problem

Yeah I think this maybe a PSU issue and poor ventilation, your temps are way to high for idle.

Wink

I am only checking the temperatures with the Nvidia driver control panel but idle is around 52 C and loaded is up to 59-60 C, i check load temp by checking immediately after running 3D games or looping benchmarks for some time.

I have just gotten some Artic Silver 5 paste and have ordered a NV5 Silencer so i will see how they go.

Have you run games etc with the case open to see if your problems improve, maybe point a fan in there to help and see whether this makes a difference.

No i haven't done that yet. Instead my PC was taken to the place where I bought it and they are taking a look at it. Arg it could be Temp or a faulty card. Arg! FOUL VIDEO CARD! May the Machine God have mercy on your metalic heart and may he put you out of your mizery.

Lol thats pretty...Ummmm well hot. I dunno if its bad but wow Hahaha.... Anyway It looks like the problem might also be a faulty card or MOBO so on monday they are going to replace everything. But if it then keeps happening I'm returning everything and buying form a diffrent place and gettin a X800 Pro. Thats my plan. Its the only top of the line PCI-X card in my pricerange.

I don't think NV5 will fit....and I think your temps are fine, anyway. Considering the 6800s can run at full load at up to 90C, you should be fine...you might get a bit more OC out of the AS5 + NV Silencer (but not 5, I think).

rolleyes

Only the power plug on ASUS cards is different but its a quick and easy mod to swap the plugs over, its designed for all 6800's.
