The BFG 6800GT OC comes overclocked to 370/1000. I was thinking about overclocking it more possibly

I can get mine to 425/1180 so get yourself up to 400/1100 if you can and you're at Ultra speeds so you'll probably be able to run real nice and smooth up to 1600x1200 with AA/AF if you so choose, honestly though use the Evolution 67.02 drivers for HL2, it appears from poking around these (67.20's) limit the PS version to 2.0a on the GF6 series cards. Texture lines are much less as well, you could also try Riva Tuner depending on how much you wanna play with system settings but these drivers come with Coolbits so you should be set. All right I'm off to bed then off to North Carolina for 5 days so everyone have a great holiday!

I hate to be annoying, but I'm still having problems with my game dropping to as low as 20 fps in certain parts of the game. I've tried so many different driver sets with hardly any improvement at all. Right now I'm using the Evolution 67.02 drivers and the game is unplayable at certain parts.

Is it possible that there is something wrong with my card because I'm not sure that I should be having these low frames with a BFG 6800GT OC, Athlon64 3200+, and a gig of 3200 HyperX.

I've defraged and that helped a little, but not much.

Million Knives are you running SP2? If so disable DEP for HL2. Run TuneXP, enable the fun things IRQ speedup, memory allocation tweak, etc, make sure there's no spy/adware running, by using Adaware or spybot, make sure you disable or get rid of your antivisus especially if you're running a Symantec AV. The thing is the biggest system hog I've ever seen, use AVG or mcafee but stay away from symatec as far as resources go. Defragging is good, shut down running processes in the background, as many as you can while playing. Is your A64 at stock speeds? Try tightening the memory timings as tight as you can make sure it's CAS2, these are all just ideas off the top of my head.....
In the HL2 shortcut set this switch -heapsize 512000, in the config.cfg make sure the texture preload sections are set to "1". Try those things and get back to us....

I use AVP which doesn't seem to use a lot of resources, but I'll try disabling it anyway. I disabled DEP for HL2 and I'm about to try it out.

I have two .cmd files that I always run... one stops useless services from running while I play games and the other starts them up after I'm done.

These are also the parameters I use for HL2 and well as CS:S and CS...

-console -noforcemparms -noforcemspd -nojoy +clientport 27006 -heapsize 512000

I will try these thing and get back to you.

Since they're all finished and such, when are they gonna come out?

Okay, I tried pretty much everything you said to do PoopyTheJ, but noticed minimal if any performance increase.

Yes my AMD64 is running at stock speeds and the only thing I didin't do was tightening the memory timings because it's something I'm not sure how to do. I'll look up on how to do that and see if it will help, but I'm thinking that it might not.

I'm wondering if i'm getting poor performance because I'm running Cool & Quiet for my AMD64. If you're not familiar with Cool & Quiet, what it does is basically lower the frequency of the processor when it is not being used to lower the temp. and increase longivity of the processor's life.

I know ASUS has their own Q-Fan control on their motherboards, I'm not sure if anyone here is familiar with how that operates.

These drivers kick ass. The stuttering in HL2 is nearly gone with these and a few tweaks.
