I doubt that there's any more than a few percent in it, and you can forget modern games unless they have options intended for underpowered systems.
I've run a GF2 MX - and now, as I found one very cheap indeed, a Geforce 4 MX440- 8x ... no more capable, but a bit faster. I found drivers later than 53.04 to be unstable on a 2MX - and while I tought it may have been a Win9x driver issue, the moment I mentioned it, someone else had the same trouble on XP - and knew of others - but some people do find that later drivers are ok. The performance of the old cards, stopped improving with drivers ages ago - if you're lucky, later dariver may improve software compatibility, and not lose performance. I'd always try to run one that matches the version of DirectX - drivers for a later version don't run well with earlier, and using an old DirectX 7 driver version under DX9 may lose some compatibility. The part of the driver version number that appears before the Nvidia version tells you the DirectX level I currently have 4.14.10.5304 That indicates: Win9x (4) (6=WinXP) DX9 (14) (scales all the way down to 10=DX5) Not sure if it makes much difference, but I set the driver modes to "High performance" and "Blend" for the mipmap level - the default seems to be high quality for mipmap, and I find that blend is ok, but anything lower looks a bit rough. BTW, the 9x and WinXP/2000 versions of drivers are incomparable (unless if you have a dual boot of course) cause the Win9x wont work on XP/2000 and the Xp/2000 ones wont work on 9x. Oh, and Neon Cowboy, could you not tell EVERYONE with an older system to upgrade, most people have higher priorities in life than constantly buying PC parts, that and not everyone uses their pcs to play the latest games, and dont need to upgrade, but a perf boost is always welcome, please, think of that before you post in that fashion. |

A Geforce 4 MX would not be much of an upgrade - more speed, but no real improvement in hardware capability.
If you can pick one up without paying silly money, a Geforce 3 is DX8 hardware - and unless DX9 capababilities are critical, will probably blow the socks of the FX5200 as well - and never refuse a cheap (but working) Geforce 4 (not MX) - still a very strong DX8 card. |

u really need to consider about buying a new video card, don't waste your time testing drivers for your video card , without a shadow of a doubt you won't notice any diference with the latest drivers.
