anyone know of any nforce3 ultra/6800 problems?
I think i burnt up my intel 865 board, so for the heck of it I decided on a slight upgrade when I replaced it. When the wife wasnt looking I bought an msi k8n neo 2 plat, and tried to set it up... so far in all the comps Ive built this has been the most un user friendly... but thats beside the point (/vent off) I also went from a p4 3.0 to an amd64 3500... I did not replace my vid card (6800 ultra).
I assumed that my 3dmarks and fps in current games I play would have gone up... However, I dropped 1k 3dmark 05 points and lost a few fps on average in games I play. Now the kicker is that despite using different drivers (from official to beta to zero points), sometimes I get a pinkish purpley color that fills in where a lot of textures should go... I like mauve as much as the next guy but come on... And I cant figure a rhyme or reason to it, itll happen one bench, then not the next, with all settings the same... Im not an expert, but Im not a novice, I familiar with driver cleaner, and the link for removing drivers for noobs on these boards... anyone know of any issues with nforce3 ultra and 6800 cards? |

Most noticably half life and counter strike, and for example lets say you have a hand rail, its almost like the detail on the hand rail is purple, not the whole handrail... I dont know how to explain it, and unfortunately I dont have any screen shots (at work) but no single object is replaced by purple, just what I would expect to be some detail on the object... and it doesnt happen all the time... in WOW, the purple doesnt happen but my fps is noticeably lower... and now I do this horrendous thing where I move for a few seconds then the game freezes and when It unsticks Ive kept going...
Actually the more I think about it, Im wondering if my original problem was my vid card and not the mobo... |

Yikes, any chance of sliding in a different card to see if that is the problem?

try updating the bios on ur vid card tehre was a problem with some cards a little while ago and alot of the stuttering like that has been fixed. also try matching your 2d and 3d clocks to the same thing. bring up ur 2d to match your 3d.

Set the AA in your nvidia CP to "application preference" and set the AA in game could be that AA bug in source games I remember from another thread, which I can't seem to find now....
You did reinstall XP after you changed the mobo out right? Updated the mobo bios etc? What are your RAM timings like for performance, the hanging thing sounds nasty, if you haven't used it try the ltcyconfig tool and set your video card latency as well as your sound card to 64, that helped me out quite a bit, I'm using an audigy card here....

Oh, yeah reformatted many times, everytime I tried a new new mobo driver or setting... My ram timings are the same as they were before, and I have set the vid card to application preference.
I actually kind of think i got a bad mobo... no matter what i do (including install the third party nvidia sata drivers when installing windows) I keep getting the safely remove hardware icon for my hard drive... thats not right is it? I think its time to take it all out and try the p4 just to make sure im not crazy |
