NGO Console + DH zer0point
Tonight NGO announced their new application that swaps out modded sets without the need to download the full set based strictly on INF files.
Quote:
My post here is to say this: I am currently not going to demand they remove support for the DH zer0point drivers, so long as the work remains fully intact(no modifications whatsoever to our INF...at all) and so long as it works. In the event it does not work well, or they don't play honest and leave our work complete, I will go about having it removed. Basically, I am saying that I can not fully support any drivers installed this way, even my own. Use this program at your own risk, and PLEASE let me know of any problems it causes so that I may take the proper actions. Thanks, ---PJ - DH zer0point Author |

Discuss away, but I will be watching this thread, flaming WILL NOT be tolerated AT ALL.
Please give me your thoughts and views in a grown up and civilized manner only. If you can't do that, don't post and keep them to yourself. I am not here to see who hates who more, I simply want to see what you, the community, feel about something like this as it is yall who drive our decisions when it really comes down to it. |

We have nothign to do with the program...it's NGo's program..they just went about wrapping everyone's INF up in it, which will infuriate some, I'm sure, but I personally don't see it as worth fighting over until the application begins to tarnish our name and putting a sour taste in our user's mouth.

"ethics" What exactly do you mean prod? I've seen little programs to swap driver sets with a simple reset before and there werent any comments about it then.
I think that this is a GREAT idea myself. I cannot believe someone hasnt made a big deal about this before. still, all-in-all I'll stick with Omega thanks.

As long as it works like its supposed to I dont see any problems w/ it. I think its a good idea, especially for people like me on dial up. You can try out different sets easily w/o spending a whole day downloading stuff. However I believe that NGO should have asked for permission before adding any set to the program.

better then a short warning addendum every 6 posts ![]() And by "ethics" Gemini, I mean that they play fair, do not in any way try and take credit for others work, provide all the appropriate "thank yous" and "credit for ____ goes too", and most importantly do not alter anyone else's work. |

i think the ethical issue he's mentioning, and the reason some people would be "infuriated", is that people often flip out when someone else modifies and redistributes the stuff they created. i can't begin to imagine why they feel that way, possibly because i've never been able to create (or modify) anything worth having. in any case, you can see the same behavior in companies like square-enix and lucasarts, who are more than happy to send cease-and-desist messages to anyone who seems to be infringing on their copyrights, with the justification that whatever they're making will confuse people and make them think this inferior product is official, thereby ruining the reputation of the company. most people still love both companies (in fact, a lot of people support this kind of behavior), so i won't say anything bad about it.
in this case, i dont think there's anything to complain about except some imaginary loss of pride, wanting to be the only source of the files. after all, they are free, NGO didn't modify them, they actually "belong" to nvidia anyway, and are in essence simply a few changes to a text file, from what i understand. |

it's a matter of pride yes, but if people are only going to see the XG tweaks or the HDzp tweaks in an NGO program and that program is crap, DHzp and XG are going to look like crap. Now I'm not saying that it will be crap only that we don;t want someone elses mistakes making us look bad, we can make our own thank you very much, but we try not to, which is why we have an extensive beta testing program and work the hell out of our drivers before releasing them. I have no idea the kind of quality controls implemented by NGO and frankly if they aren't up to our standards I don't want my name associated with the program.

There is very little to discuss in this thread, and after reading the comments here it will lead no further than a discussion on ethics, which is pointless, as the website and founder involved have none. This has been verified by behaviour in forums and the double standards as well as multi forum flaming initiated by the said site and people in charge. If I cared I would detail actions and prior behaviour but I dont.
If Poopy and Prodigal do not want their tweaks distributed around the internet then I will get them to contact NGO, and if he doesnt comply by removing, then we take steps to ensure our public and community are aware that they should not download anything relating to Driverheaven on that specific site as it is not authorised or checked/verifiied by ourselves. As someone said modifiying INfs and tweaking drivers are not copyright to anyone but the source company (nvidia in this case), otherwise I would already be moving on this myself via legal channels. Lets move on, its just wasting everyones time, and it certainly shows the unethical, unpleasant side of this community which I so despise. |
