6600GT reporting 169 degrees

Image here: http://www.headsonic.com/cardburnsmall.jpg

The card is a COLORFUL Graphic card, which found its way to me yesterday from Hong Kong. Because its a replacement on a warranty return on a previous card that I possibly damaged myself, there is really no way to send it back without him getting pissed. The previous card was a Radeon 9700PRO, and I've removed all the old drivers from the system (used add/remove programs).

Those of you who are familiar with the NVIDIA cards will know that there is a driver function that slows things down once it reaches a certain temperature threshold. I just ran 3DMark 05 on the system and it gave me about 605 3DMarks, which compares poorly with the 3000 or so others have been getting with the same card on the same CPU. My belief is that the temperature threshold is kicking in, and slowing down the card.

The card is not running hot at all, and the air blowing off it is rather cool. The fan on it sounds like a vacuum, and is louder than everything else in my system combined. I have read that a previous NVIDIA driver bug made the card report far higher temperatures than what it was actually getting. I was under the impression this had been fixed. It has run overnight without problems.

I have not modified the card in any way, and it appears standard models do not have this temperature diode activated.

Please assist, fine citizens of DH.

I should also say I have tried the official 71.89 drivers, the leaked 76.44 drivers and the Omega 66.99 drivers, and they all yield this same shit 3DMark05 score of about 600 or so.

yea, that thing is broken at best.

Don't run it any more, less you cause some damage to the rest of your system by making it cope with all that heat.
