Linux and Nvidia drivers

Hello,
With an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe board, Athlon64 (new core), MSI NX6600GT TDI128E card, Suse 9.3 (64bit) I installed the lates graphics drivers (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-7667-pkg2)
I couldn't do it with Yast so it was done manually from sh and sax2.
Even when I use a browser I see some flickering in the graphics. (e.g. in this site the above banner flickers when changing tabs)
Most importantly it only allows 24bit mode color.
Anyone who has experience with similar configuration to shed any light?
Do I have to change something to avoid the flickering or is it just my imagination?
Is 24bit the highest supported mode for this card/OS?
Any help appreciated.

EDIT: I figured out what the 24 depth is so that's 32bpp. I'm still puzzled about the flickering though.

Other issues

There seems to be other issues regarding the new NVIDIA driver as this forum would indicate - does anyone in here know a solution for this problem ?
