Sad nvidia wont see sli mode

hello there maybe someone can help me solve this puzzle.
my system consist of
windows xp pro x64 Edition
msi mobo k8n neo4 platium/sli 7100 socket 939
cpu processor dual amd athon 64x2
memory corsair 2gigs pc 3200
sli
2 nvgeforce 6600gts video cards
first of all theres no where in the nvidia display setting where to check for sli mode.I uninstalled the old drivers using the driver cleaner 2.0 dowlodded the latest nvidia geforce drivers
and installed them. But still no check box to check for sli mode.I took my mobo appart exept for the cpu.
switched the video cards around thinking the second video card was shot but it work fine. The bios is set up _sli on auto mode and is set for _pcie mode also. Now im thinking maybe the nvidia drivers or the register may need some tweeking.im out of leads any input towards this topic would be appreciated.thanks
