Hmm...

Well, there was just the 42.01 set for us dinosaurs using 9x/me...so I wouldn't get your hopes too high. I have a feeling we're entering in the pre-FX media blackout period for nVidia and expect a silly-season of drivers from them around the 17th when the FX (I think) launches.

Well it ain't gonna happen. Don't tell anyone, but nVidia is going out of business. The FX didn't work out, so they've all just been stalling 'til they can clear out the headquarters before they disapear.

(Well, at least that would explain why they haven't returned any of me e-mails over the last weeks. )

Well, I think that nVidia is a big enough company to completely avoid that ever happening (yes, I know you were joking...) within one single generation... I'm just hoping they get their act together before they pull a 3dfx and die...

I couldn't imagine then going outta business. The video card market is really only between them and ATI....and we know that ATI doesn't have the majority of the market.

Yep...i think Nvidia will rulz no more. Since Visiontek (no1 supplier for Nvidia card in US) bailed out on Nvidia and agree wit ATi, it just too much for nvidia to handle.

Well, one important thing to consider is that the Geforce FX is only going to account for 2% of nVidia's total sales, according to nVidia estimates, so the utter failure of the Geforce FX would be painful but not deadly...

Yeah, but the problem with that analysis is that about 95% of their sales are gonna be GF4 MXs....and one day the public is gonna wise-up and figure out they're really buying funny-named GF2s and not be all too happy with nVidia. WE all know about it, but it ain't exactly common knowledge at the rate they're still selling them.

It's gonna damage their rep, as is the continual delays with the FX and the continual locking down of info out of nVidia.

This is one of them rare cases, (IMHO), that no news is definately NOT good news.

And where is the new Trident offering that was supposed to be 70% of the mid-high model performance for 25% of the price.

Or the SiS Xabre

The graphics card market is getting really boring - there used to be a lot more comparable chipsets slugging it out.

But how fortunes fade - at one time, 3dFX "VooDoo" was the magic spell for all gamers - but they produced some poor low end models, and shot themselves in the foot.

S3 were also strong at one time, then just faded away - a byword in the 2D days, but the Virge has been called a 3d DECELERATOR, since as CPU speed rushed ahead, it was slower than software.

I had an S3 Savage 4 (PCI) for some time, and was pretty happy with it.

On that history, nVidia only have to drop the ball once, and they'll never pick it up again.

And HAVE they dropped it already??

Letters after an nVidia are usually BAD eg. TNT [VANTA] Geforce 2 [MX], Geforce 4 [MX] - and the TI can be above or below a non-TI version

So what do the call the latest - logically, you'd think a Geforce 5
no, Geforce FX

Welcome to the Gefarce - as people who know that MX=bad see a very similar pair of letters!
