Switch cards and keep same drivers?
Thanks to everyone here and the driver guides for getting me through round 1 of my first homegrown PC. It is really turning out to be a learning experience.
After realizing that my AIW 8500DV card didn't have driver issues, I RMAed back to Newegg. Luckily that same weekend I was able to pick up a ATI 7500 for $60 in the interum and installed it. I updated the drivers to the Cat 2.5 Display drivers and Control Panel drivers with success. It's been working great. Now that my 8500DV is back (Newegg was fast and great to work with), can I just switch the cards using the same drivers? Then I would have to load the WDA Capture drivers after the other 2 drivers were installed. Doesn't seem right, but I don't know why ![]() It seems as though ATI drivers like to be installed in a certain order and I want to reduce the chance of injury because this is my first ATI card. What's my best direction? |

Card replacement
I take it that you have been using the 7500, and now want to relace it with the 8500dv?
Follow the guide for the uninstallation of the drivers from this thread, http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...&threadid=8053 On the final rebooting to install the new drivers , just switch off the machine and replace the card, then follow the guide for the re-installation of the drivers. The WDM's go in first then the drivers then the control panel. The above is for an XP?Win2000 OS, but if you are using Win 98, or ME then follow the guide in this thread http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...&threadid=1894 Hope that this helps you.

I thank you sir. I was sorta anticipating that's the procedure I would need to follow, but had to try the shortcut if possible
I'm anxious to see all the features of the 8500DV for the first time and have them work.I do have Genius' guide bookmarked, printed and memorized for the re-installization of the drivers. Have you had the opportunity to try the .60 driver removal program that's been posted in here lately. That would make it nice for us noobs and keep us out of the registry ![]() Thanks again Polock |

I downloaded and used Spike's new Driver Cleaner program this afternoon, and everything went smoothly. Just be sure to read the "Readme" file that's included with the setup files. I will warn you, that it does delete the directory C:\ATi, so if you happen to store any extra files in there (i.e. a refresh rate fixer), that they will be gone. Otherwise..great program!
