bened is on a distinguished road

help w/dell 2005 fxp and ati 7500, please!

I'm a neophyte who's just purchased a truly, groovy dell 2005 fxp (20.1 wide screen flat panel) to run as external monitor for my trusty sony vaio grx670 laptop (2g mhz, 512 mb, 80 gig hd, w/16.1 monitor, and ati radeon mobility 7500).

Even after a live chat w/sony (dell says to settle non-dell computer issues w/card or computer mfg: ati wouldn't give me the time of day) and downloading a driver update, in1280x1024 is best resolution I can get. (Oh, and was assured by dell sales rep and tech rep that my 1600x1200 sony could run this monitor at optimal 1680x1050).

Surely, there's a 3rd party driver or something that'd allow me to run this monitor at 1680x1050.

Any ideas or suggestions? Whatever any of you can offer would be much appreciated.

(BTW, saw via google search someone who had a similar issue and downloaded an "omega" driver, but didn't say which one).

thx again!
