BSOD With XFire while Games are Running
I've been getting BSOD's whenever I attempt to use X-Fire to communicate to someone. It does not happen if I am on my desktop. It only happens when I am running a game, and someone messages me, or I attempt to message someone else. The games I have currently tested this with (sofar) are: Counter-Strike: Source, Battlefield 2, Blood Rayne 2, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, F.E.A.R. and Call of Duty 2. (Note: I mostly play CoD2, CSS, and NFS:MW)
Quick Specs: ABIT AT8 AMD X2 4200+ ASUS ATI X1900XT (Single) OCZ 2x1gb DDR400 The DxDiag will give more detailed specs: http://www.house-of-style.com/Temporary/DxDiag.txt What I have tried: I've tried 4 differnt ATI videocard drivers: 6.0, 6.1, 6.15, 6.2 I've tried Omega's 6.2 alternative Everytime I have done new drivers, I have: Entered safe mode, uninstalled videocard & drivers, unpacked new drivers to be used, Rebooted, ran Driver Cleaner Pro, Rebooted, installed new drivers to be used. My BSOD errors are: (----- denotes seperate error) Stop 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBFBC36EF 0x9FFD598C, 0x00000000) ati3duag.dll Address BFBC36EF base at BFAC8000, DateStamp 439ced94 ----- STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBF9D5ED3, 0x00000000) atkdisp.dll - Address BF9D5ED3 base at BF9D4000, DateStamp 43ab63d1 ----- STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBF9D5ED3, 0x00000000) win32k.sys - Address BF8018E5 vase at VF800000, DateStamp 43446a58 ----- STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0XBFBCBB3F, 0xA24ED98C, 0x00000000) ati3duag.dll - Address BFBCBB3F base at BFACD000, DateStamp 43d6F24F ----- STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBF9D5F53, 0xF2DF4B50, 0x00000000) atkdisp.dll - Address BF9D5F53 base at BF9D4000, DateStamp 43ab63d1 I've submited a support ticket to ATI, and I have started a thread on XFire (below) This thread here |

I have found the problem. I think this needs to be made more public. I'm going to also inform the company of which the problem was with.
However Here's what I did to fix it: Desktop-> Properties-> Settings-> Advanced-> ASUS I turned off ASUS OSD, and ASUS Splendid. OSD and Splendid are both video altering software that is supposed to enhance the "experience". OSD allows you to set Brightness/Contras/Gamma. Splended allows you to set various coloring options. After turning these options off, I ran CSS with XFire, and received/sent messages without a problem. As of right now, this has fixed my problem. (Note: I havn't done any extensive testing, however, beforehand the computer would BSOD on the first instance of an XFire message while ingame) |
