[Help!] AGP Write Setting in AdvancedSmartGart

Hey folks!

i got a little problem (although im not quite sure yet if it real is so important):

i got a ATI Radeon 9550 GamerEdition (128MB) grapic card by ASUS. It's a AGP-card (8x) and my problem now is that under the Advanced SmartGart options i cant tick the setting AGP wirte, after every restart it unticked again (i got Oemega driver v. 3.8.221 and the standard ATI 3D Control panel). I installed all the drivers-stuff (and unistall the old Catalyst) with the ATI Catalyst Tweak Guide (dunno if its good or if anyone here knows about it .. i justed wanted to do it the right way ;-) .. the sections i refer to are on page 2 and 4) and there it's said, that both options (AGP read and AGp wirte) should be ticked to guarantee a certain system stability (right word? sorry for my bad english!!) and thir will be optimal performance. In case one of the boxes is not ticked (say 'On') the author suggests the following:
Quote:
However, if they won't remain On, then typically you will need to install/re-install the latest Motherboard AGP drivers, and also check and change your BIOS settings as covered in the relevant sections of this guide above. You can also try re-enabling the 'ATI Smart' service if you disabled it previously.
I did what he said: reinstalled my mainboard drivers for AGP (got a ASROCK K7VT4A+, Via 4in1 driver, newest u can find on the homepage for my board (v4.46 i suppose).. just 'updated/reinstalled AGP, like he said), checked my BIOS settings (set AGP speed to auto or 8x, not quite sure atm, but shouldnt make a diffrence cause in the SmartGart settings of the CP its 8x)and set the service 'ATI Smart' in services.msc back to auto. But nothing helped .. AGP write is still 'Off' and now's my question, is it really that important ticking AGP write (has it any conscequences on my Framerate ingame e.g.? or can i cause lot of crashes through not setting it 'On'?) and if so, what can i do (beyond the tips in the guide, which didnt seem to work) to get AGP write run?
Thanks in advance!!

greetings
magni

Try uninstalling all of your chipset and video drivers. Then, install your chipset drivers and after those are installed, install your video drivers.
Oh, and make sure you properly clean out the drivers using DriverCleaner Pro.

Which drivers are you using? I know that the latest Omegas does not include SmartGart.

Well, I have the Omega 6.2 drivers and sure have Smartgart where it always used to be. Advanced Smartgart right out of the Omegadrivers startmenu group. And my AGP Write is also perma-off. Testing sets it to on, after reboot it's off again. I'm giving up on it. Maybe a VIA chipset issue, as I have VIA too (Abit VP6 Mobo).

Heh, I would m8, but have temporarily moved to the CAT 6.3s, as I was having a few TV probs with my new AIW X800. But, the only time I never had SmartGart working was when I didn't install the GART drivers (AGP) for my board...

I have an Sapphire X800XL, and AGP write is also off.
I have little framerates at CoD2. Even in 1024x768 it stutters in massive scenes.

The interresting thing is, if anybody knows if AGP writes is important for framerates?!?
