Radeon 9800 Pro crashing/glitching in source games.
First here are my specs I have:
AMD64 3200+ CPU Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb 2 gigs corsair RAM Creative SB Audigy 2 ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 Socket 939 ULi M1695 ATX AMD Motherboard 2 Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD4000KD 400GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - OEM 1 Western Digital 80 GIG HD Now I recently upgraded my computer and it runs really good, I installed the new omega drivers (which work great btw) I do get two errors upon install though: Registry Editor Cannot import C:\Program: error opening the file. There may be a disk or file system error. Cannot import Files\Radeon: Error opening the file. THere may be a disk or file system error. Cannot import Omega: Error opening the file. There may be a disk or file system error. Cannot import Driver\v3.8.221\ATT_Prof.reg: Error opening the file. There may be a disk or file system error. Now the problem in game that I get especially in CS:S and DOD:S: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1..._aztec0002.jpg In DOD:S I also get some graphical errors that I haven't had a chance to get a screenshot of. The litle particles aren't too bad since they don't affect gameplay, the big issue comes in where suddenly tthe screen will randomly flicker. Like the game will freeze up screen goes black then it comes back and I'm getting shot at. Then it'll just suddenly decide to freezeup all the together so bad that I have to manually restart. Now I've updated various drivers and rolledback to the last working drivers I've had and nothing seems to work. I'm trying installing the Omegas with Fastwrite on again but that hasn't worked before, however before I didn't have my motherboards AGP drivers updated. Now so far my friends and I think it could be a few issues one of which is the card is overheating, or there's some driver issue going on. I'm pretty much resolved that I'll have to get a new vid card....which I really really don't want to do at the oment since I'm low on cash. So I figured I'd come here to see if any of you can help me. I hope I've given enough information and I'm being clear about my problem. |

I would try using ATi Cat 6.3 drivers, and see if the problem persists. You could also try to redownload the Omegas and install them from a different location...it sounds like you are experiencing a disk error or corrupted download.

I should've mentioend this but I tried using the official Ati drivers and they didn't help me out anymore same particles and same crashing problems as well as a decreased performance. I will re-download the omega drivers though. It didn't even occur to me that they might be corrupt.

Here is another suggestion. . .check your heatsink and fan on your card. I had a 9800 Pro cooler fall completely off once. Also check that the fan is spinning freely and silently. It is also worth it, IMO, to remove the stock heatsink, clean the GPU, apply Arctic Silver, and reinstall it. They use some real crap at the factory on older cards.

I tried re-downloading and reinstalling the drivers and I still got the same errors upon installing them. Checking the fan anda ll that and applying Arctic silver is a weeee bit out of my league. I have a computer guy that should be here semi-soon so I should be able to get him to help me with it.

When there are spaces in the path name "" are needed, otherwise it tries each bit of the path and gives the errors you got.. It would seem therefore that ATT_Prof.reg was not merged to the registry during the install. You could look for that file and double click on it which will merge its contents to the registry Last edited by JRosenfeld; Mar 17, 2006 at 02:44 PM. |

Well I did that and it added it's value to the registry, that should be one less error...should I try reinstallign the omega drivers again?

Hmm....I'll give that a try, how difficult is it to do that sort of thing? The most compliated I've done to my computer is put new RAM in it. It's not that difficult to change the sound card slot right?

I hate to bump this up but I've found another new evelopment, my computer has been randomly fereezing on it's own. Now I don't know why it's happening but I checked the event viewer/system log and it showed this:
Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7026 Date: 3/27/2006 Time: 9:20:20 PM User: N/A Computer: WINDOWS2K Description: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: atitray This error seems to come up very frequently as well. |
