9600XT low performance... which Cat/Omega to use ?
Hi guys, I'm from Argentina so sorry if my english is not so good.
Well I recenly bought a Gigabyte Radeon 9600XT to put it in my K8N-E / Sempron 2800 754/ 1gb Corsair DDR400. I use to play just sport games (Nba Live 06, PES5, Top Spin) so I was expecting good performance. The first thing I did was a clean Windows install to ensure that i won't have old driver issues and installed the last Omega based on Cat 6.2. I noticed that my games aren'r running smooth as they should... i can notice some huge fps drops when playing and that really makes me sad considering Im not playing really huge games such as Doom 3 or Far Cry. I uninstalled that Omega and installed the Omega based on the Cat 5.12 and the performance was still low, so i unistalled them and tried the official Catalyst 5.12... this time I noticed a little better performance... but i still have the feeling that the performance is kinda limited. I read somewhere that the best optimized drivers for 9600XT are the Cat/Omega 5.9/5.7/5.6. I really don't want to try out all of them since Im kinda tired of trying different drivers without succes. So guys, what do you think are the best drivers for my R9600XT to get the max performance of it ? Thanx!! |

Well, I re-installed the Omega 3.8.221 and noticed that my games started running smooth... so i decided to make a 3dmark 2003 test and I got 4121 points! Pretty good isn't it ?
What do you think ? Should I keep this ones ? |

I find the Omega 3.8.221 very good drivers in both BF2 and Wow. So far these are the smoothest I've tryed.
If there working well for you just stay with them. I only upgrade to see if a newer driver is any better or if i see something in the patch notes that applys to me. |

The answer to your question is always going to be whatever works best for you. It also depends on alot of factors, like what hardware you have and what games you play. There are alot of these posts and theres no real answer. You just need to try a few and see for yourself to know for sure. |
