Mobility 9700 resolution at 1400 x 1050 and won't change

The standard drivers provided with my acer laptop are to old and out of date to support oblivion so I have tried installing the omega drivers for my mobility 9700 card. they install fine however the resolution is set at 1400 x 1050 and on a 15'' its almost to small to see. If I set them to anything else either in the ccc or thorough the windows display settings the screen goes black. Its not locked up cause I can still hit buttons etc (such as alt f4 to shut down windows) but I have no idea whats going on cause its all black. When I restart the comp. the resolution is back to the 1400 x 1050. I tried to just play oblivion like this but as soon as the game loads it goes black. the sound still plays and all so i know its running I just can't see it. I have also tried the hacked versions of catalyst 6.3 and the one for mobility chips both direct from ati but they do the exact same thing. please help.

I thought that I would give it one more go so I completly removed all the video drivers, software and utilities from both ati and omega. i then reinstalled the drivers only from omega and after restarting twice (once in safe mode to set the resolution down to a displable mode) everything is working great. I also tried out oblivion which was my original problem, a flickering sword and all, and its working great too. Thanks omega keep up the good work.
