HELP with my 9800 pro
Okay, so I'm not much of a hardware expert and my Radeon 9800 Pro is giving me huge problems. So one day, I upgrade to DirectX 9.0C to play Civ IV. I try to start it up and it just freezes and restarts. I test this further and realize that using DirectX for applications causes this, since OpenGL worked fine. Then, I get the newest Omega Drivers at the time (38221). Problem persists. I downgrade to 38205 and the problem seems fixed, except ater about 10 minutes of gameplay, it freezes and restarts again. I then updated DirectX to the February Redist and problem STILL remains. Over this period of time, I've switched from Omega and official versions of drivers ranging from 38205 to 38231 and tried to upgrade DirectX multiple times. I'm at my wit's end, HELP!

Well, firstly, I have to tell you that OpenGL is an element of whole DirectX as well as Direct3D is.
And concerning the freezes: I've made huge experience some years ago that it has not to be a problem of the graphics card if the monitor shows up bluescreens or the whole machine reboots. Then, I've come to conclusion that my problematic onboard sound is the source ... (I'm glad this is over since I've been owning an Audigy 2 ZS for years now) Don't focus too much on your gfx! There could be other reasons. I would suggest upgrading all drivers of your machine first ...
