Internet Explorer won't launch when ATI Tray Tools is active
I hope this wasn't posted somewhere else, because I didn't find it.
When ATI Tray Tools is running my Internet Explorer will not launch. I click the icon and nothing happens. If I right click the tools icon and exit the program Internet Explorer starts right up. Has anyone else noticed this? |

Check your Exceptions list in your Firewall settings and grant ATi Tray Tools to have access. See if that clears it up. |

Well, I hadn't thought of that but I did try it. Unfortunately it didn't make a difference.

Wow. I searched the whole of the net and this is the only thread that is discusing this problem. And no solution has been given by anyone for nearly two years
.I'm using the Radeon Omega Drivers v3.8.252 on Vista 32bit on my Toshiba A60 Pro laptop that has ATI Mobility 7000 IGP graphics card. Everything seems to be working fine except for this problem. When ATI Tray Tools (atitray.exe) is running in memory, Internet Explorer (iexplorer.exe) has trouble functioning. atitray.exe works fine, but the CPU usage for iexplorer.exe goes to 100%. The memory usage for all processes is normal. I can use firefox without problems but not internet explorer. It's not a firewall problem cos I've tried disabling the firewall and I still get the same symptoms. As soon as you exit ati tray tools, internet explorer begins to function normally. Someone please help cos these are the only ATI drivers that work for me on Windows Vista. Thanks. P.S. Oh by the way, I'm getting a blue screen of death for file ati2dvag.dll whenever I try to shutdown, restart, sleep or hibernate the laptop. The laptop then restarts so basically, there's no way of shutting it down unless I do a hard reset or shut it off during bootup). But I did not mention that above since I don't think it is related. But if anyone has a solution to that too, please share here.

this reminds me of a weird 'virus' that hooked itself & was causing hidden registry keys (i have proof, seen some forum 'geeks' say they dont exist) & 100% cpu usage caused by long loops of registry reading
long story short, can you 2 try changing the default browser to firefox, & then seeing if firefox now ends up not opening & IE being fixed? |

Thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested. Same problem. IE hangs while firefox works.
System is a fresh install of Vista. Installed firewall. Haven't surfed on net using laptop. So I don't think it's a virus. More of a compatability issue.

I assume it's IE7 since you have Vista. Try the latest beta version, Ray mentioned some fixed IE7 issue: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=225828&page=11
Link to the installer is in the first post of that thread. Edit: Sorry, I just noticed it was you who Ray was answering in that thread, so you probably already tried that
