radeon 9700 hickups

I am totally new to Ati so I'm sorry for any weird comments
coming from Matrox I was dazzled by the speed of the new radeon 9700 I bought yesterday.
After installing the default drivers I also tried the catalysts from the Ati site.

my problem: very small hickups even if the fps is 200 (so 3Dmark tells me..). It's really small hickups but annoying when playing. It happens in every test and also in Unreal2 (haven't played more).
btw, unreal tells me I go as low as 25 fps sometimes!

then some questions:
* I got 10760 in 3Dmark if I don't change any settings (It's the Radeon 9700 NOT Pro).
* where can I check the driver version I have
* how can I see wether I got BBA or PBA ?? (It's an Club3D)

the rest of my system is amd2k+ 768 Mb, Gigabyte GA-VAXP, WD 7200rpm 800JB

for 3d mark make sure you have nothing running in the back ground and put your sliders in the options tab all the way over to performance

for your driver version right click anywhere on your desktop then click on settings then advanced then options. it will tell you what version of cat 3,0 and what driver version you are running

another weird thing

There is another problem and that is thatI see some huge texture errors from time to time (in 3DMark and also Unreal2). Just long strecthed triangles going over the screen or little squares with loads of colors in them.
Looks really weird, anyone having these as well or might there be something wrong with my memory on the Card?

BBA = Built By ATI
PBA = Powered By ATI

Club3D = Powered By ATI

Be sure to read the guides about un/installing ATI drivers stickied here

Also, a format/reinstall would make sure you got rid of the previous Matrox drivers, .

Good luck

I read Club3D was BBA as well, but of course i'm not sure. Are you sure about the PBA ?
But my question was, how can I tell for sure, how can I see this on the board ?

For the rest it looks pretty good. I run 1600x1200 @ 85 and see no ghosting or weird artiacts. except for the 3D. weird coloured squares and sometimes streched triangles black or even big black squares (UT2003)

Your card is Built By Cub3D. I don't think they have a special logo, like BBC3D but every card built around an ATI chip will have a PBA logo on it. Of course, unless it is built and marketed by ATI themselves, who - unlike nvidia - have their own card factory, hence the BBA logo.

This is not as relevant these days, as Catalyst drivers can be used for either BBA and PBA cards. In the past ATI provided different editions for BBA and PBA cards, with the PBA version (reference version as it was called) being older. PBA card owners - my case also - would have to have their drivers from the card manufacturer's website (Club3D in your case). But you don't need to worry about this today.

On ATI's search page there are four links in the bottom left - these will hopefuly answer all your questions.

For the artifacts - could be a lot of things, but you might consider a fresh install of windows (if it's 98se, a lot of upgrades too), preferably after a format, and a clean driver instal (XP instals a lousy old driver for Radeon based cards, which needs to be uninstalled). Your computer should be set to VGA display driver and all remains from previous drivers (registry entries etc.) removed before you install a new ATI driver.

The weird thing is, it has 2 s/n and a part number.
the 2nd serial # is a sticker that's put on pretty loose, the otherone is firmly attached to the board. This also holds a P/N number and when I type it in @ Ati it gives me a BBA product, so I think my Club3D is BBA then.

I did a clean install on XP but didn't remove the drivers before I installed the new ones.
I still have the same problem but my 3Dmark went from 10750 to 11990, so I will do a clean install again.
You really think my stripes and texture blocks can give such error because I didn't remove the old drivers that XP install when doing a clean xp install ?
This is what I did: install XP, install VIA drivers, install ATI drivers. so this could still be the problem ?

Yes, you still have to uninstall the original XP driver. You need to install the ATI driver starting with a Standard VGA driver installed. I don't know if failing to do this is the cause of your trouble, but you need to rule that out before looking into RMA and such.

Good luck
