Problem with driver on Dell Inspiron 6000

I have an ATI Mobility Radeon X300 and need to download Catalyst 6.4 or higher to run Civilization IV but I can't get the download to work from ATI.com because they don't support Dell and Dell's website doesn't have a driver update since 9/2005. I was told the omega drivers would work but when I downloaded it I got the same error as from the ATI site. The error says: INF Error, video driver not found. I then get a screen that says I need to setup my display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup. It seems that I need the new patch from Dell but they don't have a new enough patch. Does anyone have an idea on any patch I could use to play Civ IV?

Thanks for the info. I tried the modding and it worked, I was able to use the updated driver but I still cannot load the game.

I don't know what is still wrong, I've tried calling all the tech support I can and the only answer I could get was the driver was too old, now I have the new one and still no luck. I will have to search the Civ IV message boards some more...
