Although when a GFX card conflict with other devices it can hang in this way and give 640X480 @4bit..any GFX card will do that if not functioning the way it should be. This error is related specifically to the driver from ATI, ATI GFX cards and the KT400 chipset. ATI downplays this issue like your machin is the only one with the problem...this is 3 driver releases now that do the exact same thing when installed-=it's a problem with the drivers and the KT 400 chipset...as that seems to be in each instance with this problem...

Good news! I just installed the Hyperion 5.10a drivers and the Catalyst 6.9's. I don't know which did the trick, but the problem is gone.

I accidently wrote "5.9" when I meant "6.9" Catalysts. And yes, it works.

Yes! 6.9 fixed the problems with my 9600XT card.
I'm using the Omega version.

maybe I will try the 6.9's then I attempted install of the chipset driver and I got a loop meaning the system would start and reset..over and over..so today I think I am gonna do a reinstall of everything and see how it goes..
