Problems with d3d and UT
I have problems with UnrealTournament, not UT2003
I have had this problem since I first got my ATi Radeon 8500 128mb card, and I still have the same problem, also people with Radeon 9000 cards have complained about heavy FPS drops, so it can't be anything with my computer, or the d3d.dll patches released by Epic. I have a Crucial Radeon 9700 Pro the problem I have is that the FPS goes from 170+ in 1024x768x16 to 50 or 60fps. I have tryed all the d3d.dll patches released from Epic, without any difference. So the problem can't be with Epic's dll file, but something with the ATi drivers. I would have appreciated some information from someone that have fixed this problem or an ATi official that can enlighten me, and might come up with a solution. Two questions.
Why are you running it in 16-bit color on that fine of a video card and what is wrong with 50-60 FPS?

Try using OpenGL instead of D3D.

Have you tried the new Catalyst 3.1 that ATi just released?

I have tryed with OGL, but no big difference there.
What's wrong with 50 to 60 fps ? Well for a game that is 4 years old, and that it drops from 170fps to around 50 with stuttering, kinda makes it unplayable if you ask me. No I haven't tryed the latest Catalyst drivers yet, just noticed that drivers was released when I arrived at work. But I will test them when I get home. Let's hope that these drivers fixes this problem. Cause it's damn annoying. Why I'm playing with 16bit color, well I'm used to it I guess ![]() And I don't really care about eye candy, the most important issue for me is flow and stable FPS.

Freedom is a feature.

32-bit color should work better.
I personally prefer OpenGL, it works kinda better.
