Question about Omega and other modified drivers
Hi all.
Beeing kind of a noob with this drivers stuff, I have a doubt about modified drivers. I have a laptop with an ATI X1600 and I am currently running Catalyst 6.4. I tried Omega and they certainly gave me a notable point boost in 3DMark 2005 but what I wanted to know is this: Is there any risk AT ALL when using Omega or other modified drivers? i.e., can they damage my graphic card or my laptop? Do these modified drivers push the graphics card too hard or make it get warmer? Sorry for the noob questions but I just wanted to know if using modified drivers can damage my computer. Hope any u guys (hopefully Omegadrive aswell ) can answer me.Thankx a lot in advance! |

Even though I don't have anything to link to, I can say with strong confidence that they will not damage your computer/anything inside it.

Greetings! And welcome to DriverHeaven.
I've been using Omegadrivers for years. I'm presently using the NGO ATI Optimized drivers. The drivers....as loaded to their defaults....will not do any damage to your card or to your computer. HOWEVER, any overclocking that you do after installing ANY drivers, can possibly do damage. So, you should know what you're doing before trying to do any overclocking. |

Thankx for your answers.
I tried to install the NGOs ATI 1.6.6 but I get an error after choosing the installation settings (when the ATI splashscreen is in the background) saying that the installation program couldn't find a certain .inf and that I should install a standard VGA drivers first ![]() Here's what I did: - Uninstalled my current drivers and reboot - Booted in safe mode and runned Driver Cleaner Pro with the "ATI" filter and then reboot - Booted normally and runned the NGOs installation .exe - Selected the installation settings and when installation begins (ATI logo in the back) I get the error stated above. Any thoughts on why this happened?? Thankx a lot in advance. |

I dont know, but does the NGO drivers support laptops?
I know that the omega drivers do that (they made gaming on my laptop possible, so i love the omega drivers for that). If i were you, i would stick with the very latest omega drivers. With them, its possible to make your laptop up-to-date and without the CCC (wich would kill my laptop with only 512mb RAM), windows xp runs very, very good. |

heh..... push a card harder & make it hotter....
doesnt most everything run at its max already? drivers just tweak the communication between the OS & hardware in any case, modded drivers are usually minor improvements or major bug fixes only OC'ing as mentioned would significantly push the card more |
