Farcry and Adaptive AA bug
Sup all?
I've been searching the forums and also the forums on rage3d, Spyre touched base on this issue awhile back but so far there has been no word on it and I can no longer submit a ticket to ATI about the issue since the Cat Crew Feedback site no longer works. Here is the problem ( tested on an X800, X850 and X1900XTX X-Fired ). I've been getting some of my customers calling me and asking why they are getting a blue hue around the borders of the screen while they are playing Farcry with Adaptive AA enabled. The issue occurs with both Performance and Quality settings and has occured as far back as I can remember. This is a really annoying issue, and as soon as I get my system reloaded I will post a screenshot. Mostly the issues only occur on outdoor maps and not inside buildings or caves or maps where night has fallen. The issue is also apparenty in World Of Warcraft too, not to the extent of Farcry but there is a line that goes up the left and across the top of the screen from what I have shown durring testing. Any word on when this will be fixed?

Oh, never noticed any such thing. (sapphire x1800xt)
I play the game (or used to anyway) at 1280x1024. What about on your systems?

yup noticed the same thing on mine, tbh i wrote it off as a driver issue, but since it didnt affect performance or quality it never bothered me much.
cheers

This happens on a few games with Adaptive AA enabled on my computer too. I dont mind it that much, but i agree that this is defiantly something that needs to be fixed soon enough.
Sending a ticket to ATi Catalyst crew feedbak and suggest everyone else does it too. |

Yes, same issue here with my X1800 XL.
At first I thought it was a driver-only issue, but ever since I bought my X1800 XL (December 2005) none of the ATi Catalyst since then ever fixed the problem (5.12, 6.1, etc, up to now with 6.7). So, yes I definitely confirm the issue.

CCC ->3D-> API-Specific -> Alternate pixel center -> on.
Turn off the GI, if you get performance problems ("when one hack meets another...").

i get that too in some games, but for me it's not a hue, just a simple line on the left and on the upper side. thing is, it sometimes disappears in the middle of a game and reapperas again later.

I just tested this and I do have a very thin border blue line on the top and when I am looking at my screen -- the left part of the screen. However, there is no hue like what you offered with your screenshot.
Why do you have the hue and not me? Could it be something to do with the 64-bit OS? Edit: What I mean by testing is: Super-AA x10 setting with performance adaptive and the x4 setting with quality adaptive. |

Went and tested with Max settings for AA everything turned on etc etc issue still occurs. Guess I won't be running Farcry with Adaptive AA until ATI decides to fix this, but the issue has been around for atleast 2 years from what I can remember as far back as my X800XT days.
Hopefuly ATI decides to fix this issue soon.

A bit off topic, but, anyone else finding those weapons' skins ugly? That is the only thing I don't like about the game, I wish there was a way to make them look better.

I have gone back to as far backs as 5.12 drivers to test the issue on multiple cards Radeon 9700 Pro, 9800XT using reg hacks to enable the AAA, X800XT, X850XTPE, X1800XT, X1900XT and an X1900XTX all show the exact same issues.

I would like to test this. Is it possible to enable AAA without the CCC?

I get blue lines at the top and left border on my screen..thought it was normal. I think it happens in most games I play..I just tried to ignore it. I guess I'm not the only one with the problem.

Right now i'm using the Farcry 1.33 update and i do not see those blue lines but at the same time i think my x1900gt is not using the HDR capability, where i can find this 1.44 beta update to enable the HDR?

This problem has been around for a very long time and I think it only affects DVI LCDs. Do you guys that dont get it use such a display?

I'm on a CRT and I get the issue when enabling Adaptive A-A.
Non-Adaptive A-A works fine without the issue. I had the problem since a long time, as long as I can remember. I tried all Catalyst versions since I bought my X1800 XL, up to now with CAT 6.7, and it has never fixed it. Maybe CAT 6.8 will do it, but I doubt it.

The way I fixed this issue which I had with games like KotOR... was to disable Catalyst AI
