Radeon 9700pro secondary
Just out of idle curieosty. Why the heck does it install a redeon 9700 and a 9700 secondary? I searched the board and it doesent appear to have been asked. It does not seem to affect performance. I was jsut kinda wondering about it really. Does it have to do with the digital out? Or multi monitor stuff?
Or is my PC on the wacky tabakie? |

It's because it has a second video out. It will always show 2 monitors in your device manager. If you don't have anything hooked up to the second one, it will show as "default monitor". Nothing to worry about, it's normal.

Well, jsut goes to show that I can guess decently at what it could be. Thanks for re-afferming me. I hered somewhere(on this board even) That the Radeon 9700Pro can't do 3D over 2 monitors. This a driver issue or should I give up thinking about another monitor?
Soon as LCD gets where its going of course. I saw a sony one that wasent too bad cept for its price tag. |

I may be mistaken, and if I am someone please let me know. But the 9700 will not do 3d on the secondary monitor.

Well, you must also remember the game has to be programed for isometric perstective gaming my friend. Or at least faked in some way. I have only seen quake 3 running in this way. (on a Matrox card and a geforce) Though I believe it requires a patch. Being the nature of the unreal warefare engine I imagine it can do it as well. However I have not seen anything in the ini to support this guess.
What games have you tried? And also remember games won't automatically render on both devices on their own. You have to tell them too if the option is avaliable. The world of dulie monitors is a bit far off and usually programmers add it so they can say look what I can do or have budget at their disposal to afford 2 high quality monitors and want to play it like that *cough* carmak *cough cough*... Anyhow support is thin for this feature but I'm also interested in it for cad applications as really it makes it much easier to use autocad and 3ds max over 2 monitors which both are much faster with 3d acceleration. Not so much clutter in one screen.... |

Radeon 9700 will do 3D on EITHER monitor, but not both, at least not without some very specific driver molestation that makes single monitor 3D nearly impossible.
The Radeon 9700 shows up as two cards, even in the BIOS, so that both displays can be seen as a full card->monitor combo. This was/is needed to make sure that two monitors and 3D work on pretty much every OS ever made. 2000 and XP can handle the one card, two monitors situation, but it causes problems in 9X. It's really a rather elegant solution.
