I'm laughing so hard I may not be typing just right. LOL!
Anyway, someone over at Tom's Hardware decided to benchmark the newest ATI 1950XTX and included the now-famous "Chuck Patch" drivers. Regeneration has posted about this over at NGO forums and, the following link will take you directly to Tom's Hardware where the reviewer posted his results. Here's what is funny: In Half-Life 2, which works just fine with HDR and AA together with the official drivers, they had big problems with HL-2 and the "Chuck Patch" drivers. So, they gave the benchmarks for it an 'Incomplete' due to all the "0"s generated due to the game not even starting. You have to keep in mind that the "Chuck Patch" was developed ONLY for OBLIVION. ![]() If you're interested, head on over here: http://tomshardware.co.uk/2006/08/23..._uk/page8.html |

Anyway, on a more serious note, is this the kind of thing that is keeping ATI from incorporating the Chuck Patch into the official drivers? |

I honestly have no idea Dyre, I stopped gaming on ATI a while ago when I gave up on my crossfire setup, it now gathers dust in the rig i do all my design work on, so I dont really keep up with ATI drivers anymore.
ive emailed a few people in ATI about this to get a response, im a little bewildered myself. |

What amazes me is that people that are benching for a site like Tom's should know that HL2 supports HDR+AA on the official drivers, so adding anything else was bound to cause issues...

Zardon couldn't possibly be more honest could he? (sorry off topic) That's kinda funny that one of the games that ATI is reknown for running nearly the best/fastest and most capable modes for, specially considering it was one of the first to incorporate support for both right from the start, would be slapped up on toms hardware as a "no go, error, FAILURE TO LAUNCH" some people.. really.... don't know what they are doing.

ATi, on their web-site, clearly tells us that the Chuck Patch is a proof of concept, and that they do not support it in any way.
I don't even know why they'd try to replicate the issue, since they "don't support it". It's not even their problem. If their consumer choose to get the Chuck Patch, it's at their own risk. The very company itself in a whole shouldn't even get blamed by that. If there's one person out there that has to answer questions, it's no one else than that guy who created that Patch, that "Chuck" guy. And technically speaking, Tom's Hardware did not act professionally by benchmarking with non-official driver data/files in the first place. If they want to test with the Chuck Patch just because they're curious, then they shouldn't present it as an official benchmark. Because of that, a lot of people will start to flame ATi and say that nVidia "pwn em'".

So...uh, has anyone else been able to replicate the issue? I've got a couple of x1900xt's (512mb) running the 6.8 Chuck patch, and even with AA enabled manually, Lost Coast loads and plays just fine.
Am I missing something? |
